Should have turned Weinstein into law enforcement at that time or used his bully pulpit to ruin him years ago and saved some other victims.

I'm not sure if even Brad Pitt had the power to take down Weinstein's career. It would have been nice if he would have kept after him though.

Chris Hardwick gets the boom lowered on him by his ex gf:

https://medium.com/@skydart/rose-colored-glasses-6be0594970ca

Certainly he sounds like a major league ******* but this movement is sorta blending into open season to gossip about your ****ty relationships.

I'm not blaming her for suffering from a terrible boyfriend. I feel for her there and I understand how relationships can spiral into a ****ty spot that both sides don't want to get out of for all the wrong reasons. But just in general...is there some extra level of catharsis to publicly releasing this versus telling him privately what he did to her and talking to friends/family ? Maybe she tried or did, who knows.

I will say, the vindictiveness by so many in power to immediately threaten or make attempts to "ruin" the careers of others is sick.

Yeah, this is a tough one. I was right there with you, but the more I read, the more I was like, "Ok, yeah, Chris Hardwick is an assh*le and I'm glad this is out there." But maybe this still isn't the most appropriate way to handle this. Or maybe it is? I honestly have no idea at this point.

All I know is that Hardwick has always been one of those hip, uber nerds who has rubbed me the wrong way for reasons I've never been able to quite put my finger on. This at least confirms my suspicions.

But I hate reading the details of what this woman had to go through. It sounds terrible and frightening at times... but also consensual, even if she hated it. I guess it comes down to defining the #MeToo movement more precisely, if that's even possible.

I'll never understand why women in her situation wouldn't head for the hills running as soon as all these controlling rules are put into place 2 weeks into the relationship.

Sucks to hear about Hardwick. Been listening to his Nerdist podcast occasionally. Sometimes he can come off as a bit of a pretentious know-it-all, and just kind of annoying. Didn't realize he was this much of a dick, too.

Interesting. Gavin McInnes has talked about that a lot on various podcasts (Rogan's included) and people shelled him for it.

Guy is a weird dude but he has definitely been outspoken on the "beta male" topic and some of these sick men have hidden behind that and play to it to get away with doing bad **** to women.

Chris Hardwick sounds like a major league dick, but i do think the social media trials are completely unfair as well.

At the end of the day, it's still he said / she said and damn dangerous. Anybody can now lose everything simply because someone has an axe to grind. Your career can be finished overnight because of one tweet by someone mad at you.

I would point everyone towards Kevin Smith's podcasts for your nerd culture needs. Great podcasts, amazing storyteller, and genuinely good guy.

Hardwick won't be missed.

Still doesn't make sense to me. It's not like it happened slowly over the course of the relationship until she felt trapped. It was two weeks in.

that's the one thing that I guess I'd probably be a little more honest about and discuss with my friends than let get misconstrued on a public forum. While she shouldn't blame herself (or at least totally), she needs to recognize she made decisions very early in the relationship that only helped feed worse behavior by him as it went on.

She acknowledges it at the end with the thing about rose colored glasses, but will she actually change the way she views relationships going forward? I hope so.

I don't really know anything about Chris Hardwick so I looked at his Wiki page, he's married now and his wife is a relative of William Randolph Hearst. The newsies will crush this ex girlfriend of his!

But seriously, Hearst was a billionaire who had a bully pulpit he abused in the papers, now social media is the bully pulpit almost anyone can use - provided it goes viral. It's weird to watch some of these come and go, some ruin a career some seem to be forgotten about in days but the "crime" in both may be the same.

My eyes have really been opened to the world of nerdy white guys in the past couple of years. The whole "incel" thing and all of that. Boys that have spent their lives on their iphones, social media, playing video games, and essentially have no idea what actual masculinity is about. Not to mention they've probably addled their minds with porn addiction. They then lash out at women in general because, unless they have wealth, most women don't have any attraction to weakling males who couldn't change a tire if their life depended on it.

These are the sh**birds that harass the Kelly Marie Tran's of the world to the point of needing therapy, safe behind the security of twitter handles. What a bunch of f'ing loser.

While I've never had a problem with Hardwick, I've never really cared for him much.

He's always come across as a Jay Leno-type for nerd culture. You know: always wanting to be the celebrity's friend, never saying anything bad about a project. Basically, sucking the entertainment industry's d*** because he seems to have this desperate need for acceptance from them.

Now, I will say that I used to watch his show @midnight (before we lost Comedy Central for a few years) and it was pretty damn funny. But that's only because he had funny people making funny jokes on it. He wasn't the funny one.

And the Wil Wheaton thing is an example of the worst aspects of social media: "I've heard from people that this person is a terrible person, so I'm going to throw their name out there. And no, I won't provide any examples of what they said about him. And if you don't believe me, you are saying you support abusive behavior."

Give us more than heresay or don't indict him with a tweet.

I started liking Hardwick and the Nerdist shows right before all the Talking Dead/@midnight stuff happened. Sad to hear he's a jerk.

Wil Wheaton has always come off as a jerk on social media, but I do like watching Tabletop.

I think you are right about some of the nerd culture and the whole involuntarily celibate culture. But the 20-30 years of problems with how we express/encourage proper masculinity and discourage the negatives of "boys will be boys" goes far beyond the nerds. Look at the current gun culture - social media within gun culture have turned guns into pornography (look at the texags outdoors board- that place is amazing and is mostly farmers and ranchers and city folks who like to hunt/fish on the weekends, but there are a few gun porn dudes and they usually have a 2006/7ish or newer era class year in their username).
If you go back to the late 70s and before, guns were tools, similar to a shovel, screwdriver, or post hole digger.

I'm really not sure what your point is. Technology has turned everyone's hobbies, interests, and pass times into social media fueled/highly marketed overload. The Entertainment Board is a prime example. We've got a very in depth discussion going right now on the Star Wars thread about SW gaming. I don't think anyone would have expected that either in the 70's.
