I heard some older guy call a waitress "Sweetie" once. I wish I'd had the courage to speak up and put a stop to it.

I think what some people are getting at is this started as outing people for legit sexual assault and rape and now if someone looked at someone wrong it's labeled "sexual assault."

Harassment and assault def aren't the same thing and shouldn't be treated the same.
I'm not sure what the Venn diagram for guys who are notorious for harassing behavior and guys who actually commit assault would be, but I'd be curious.

Wasn't insinuating that every guy who makes a dirty joke acts on it...but if a 30-40 year old guy tells his 18-20 year old waitress that he'd like to motorboat her, she'd probably prefer to not walk to her car alone at the same time as him.

Everything you're saying makes absolute sense and is 100% justified. Some of these guys don't deserve a response.

Not at all but I've seen waitresses shut down smartasses like that with one quick comeback without having to run away to daddy to assign a man to their table. Honestly, those waitresses probably get better tips in the end.
I waited tables all thru college. Was called "hon" and sweetie numerous times. Only time I got pissed was when a customer hollered across the patio, "hey, missy". I replied that I have a name and it's not missy. I stayed friends with the guy for many years after. I never felt truly scared or offended. And I made good money.
If they were rude, I was definitely a smartass. Hon and sweetie etc doesn't bother me at all I joked with my tables plenty and brushed lots of stuff off. I just had zero tolerance for people making creepy sexual comments my way and I wasn't going to foist them off on another girl. Only one girl averaged higher earnings per hour than me according to tip out reports.
I told the owner how I handled that stuff a while back and he asked why I wouldn't have them thrown out on their asses. He actually kicked people out for being crude to waitresses plenty. I didn't make a big deal. They weren't obligated to tip me and I wasn't obligated to put up with Their creepass behavior...no matter how much money they might tip to "Make up for it". Too many dudes think a smartass comment is flirting or a reward..they win if they get a rise out of a girl.
Only table I ever reported to the manager about was a dude who was drunk, not my table, kept grabbing me as I walked by, making creepy comments, and trying to poke me with an empty paper towel roll. Otherwise, handled everything myself.
