Truthfully, some of these older dudes who are still obsessed with cartoons to this degree have always kind of creeped me out. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy certain Pixar movies, and I don't mean to stereotype, I'm just saying that there's a certain breed of grown-ass adult male who's just a little too much into animation, Walt Disney World, magic, etc to an uncomfortable degree, so much so that this news doesn't really surprise me.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/saturday-night-live-women-defend-franken-after-groping-allegations-n822806

Quote:

In the letter, the women slammed Franken's behavior toward Leeann Tweeden who accused the lawmaker of forcibly kissing and groping her more than a decade ago as "stupid and foolish" but wrote that "not one of us ever experienced any inappropriate behavior" from the former SNL cast member.
"We feel compelled to stand up for Al Franken, whom we have all had the pleasure of working with over the years on Saturday Night Live (SNL). What Al did was stupid and foolish, and we think it was appropriate for him to apologize to Ms. Tweeden, and to the public," the women wrote. "In our experience, we know Al as a devoted and dedicated family man, a wonderful comedic performer, and an honorable public servant."
"That is why we are moved to quickly and directly affirm that after years of working with him, we would like to acknowledge that not one of us ever experienced any inappropriate behavior; and mention our sincere appreciation that he treated each of us with the utmost respect and regard,

I have some thoughts..but mostly that last sentence where they thank him for treating them with respect (unlike Leeann Tweedon) sits pretty wrong with me. However, if I had a friend of coworker accused of being a pervert/harrasser and I genuinely felt like that was untrue/out of character, I would feel compelled to speak out about my (good) experiences with them.

This feels wierd to me though.

I get where you're coming from, but I'd wager that most animators (and i know a fair number of guys at Disney and Pixar as well as other places) really aren't like that at all. The folks doing it at a high level are much more into the performance, staging, story, and artform than the "Disney" angle.

I'm sure there's some, but they're the exception rather than the norm.

it's a tricky situation for sure...i see no reason why people can't or shouldn't offer their positive experiences with any of those people accused of wrongdoing, though it shouldn't be twisted or construed as dismissing another's experiences (which might be quite different).

but that last sentence is definitely strange and maybe it speaks to how bad things have gotten. being treated with respect should be expected, not cause for expressing appreciation.

Agreed. I tried to make it clear that I was talking about a very specific type. I know tons of animators as well and none of them are even remotely like the Lasseter types. Just talking about the ones like him who have model trains running all through their house, wear Hawaiian shirts every day, seem a little too "jolly" in a creepy kind of way, etc...

I'm not defending powerful men you drama queen. I'm merely pointing out how easy it is to ruin someone's life on what could be baseless accusations.

I was banned for calling someone a drama queen on the politics board.
Well, your first mistake was going to the politics board.

This is probably the first one that hurts. The guy is responsible for a lot of my childhood and even young adulthood.

What would be really interesting is, let Franco continue on his path towards a possible Oscar, then break the story a few days before the Oscars.

Then sit back and watch the fireworks.

Yes and that was 100% The point of #metoo

Wonder if any of the victims would have appreciated a southern boy whipping the assaulters ass on the spot for not treating a lady properly.

By no means am i saying southerners don't have just as many asshats crossing the line. But i just find it amusing that guys that try to follow traditional roles get made fun of...and they likely could have solved a lot of these situations as they unfolded...without a hashtag.
