So now that he got canned can TCTTS enlighten us?
My staying out of it up until now was mainly due to the fact that two of my best friends and business partners had a project with Harvey until about a week ago. In fact, they had written Harvey's passion project, after many rewrites it was completed week before last, and Harvey was finally ready to pull the trigger, again calling it one of the best scripts he's ever read. Then, literally the next day this news first broke and the whole thing came crashing down (again).
Some of you may remember my story about us running into Harvey at Sundance. The project I hinted at in that post ended up being one I posted about later when it was publicly announced as a TV show last year. Well, Harvey botched the sale of that show pretty badly, it was basically dead, and then my buddies gave it one last shot and revitalized it as a movie earlier this year, which, ironically was what Harvey envisioned it as all along. He had tried to make a movie out of it for 15 years, but my friends convinced him to give it a go as a TV show instead. When that failed (again, due to some serious ball-dropping on Harvey's part), they finally cracked it as a movie, and Harvey was so stoked with the final script that it was about to go out to directors literally last week. It was to be his next big Oscar movie, and the company as a whole was super excited for it.
Now, no one knows what's going to happen with it, and I really can't say much more than that. All I know is that it's now up to the lawyers to figure out what the hell's going to happen with the script. My gut says it's dead, but we'll see. There's a lot more going on behind the scenes, I just hope you guys understand why I can't give any more detail at the moment.
And to clear:
- This project has nothing to do with O&C. This was a script that two of my partners have been working on since before we formed the company.
- We all obviously knew of Harvey's reputation and turned a blind eye, but to us, it was mostly legend and conjecture up to that point. He treated my partners with nothing but respect and praise. However, now having read the details of his behavior, the things he's done can't be ignored. Legally, what happens with the script from this point on is beyond my business partners' control, but their relationship with Harvey himself is most definitely over.
