I feel like the hype around The Lion King has kind of swallowed up this movie. Kind of strange they decided to release this in July and right after TLK.

Makes me wonder why they didn't hold off until August or September.

It could've had August all to itself.

True, forgot about that movie, which makes it an even weirder release date.

You release it while Lion King is still dominating, and then it promptly gets its legs cut off by H&S.

Summer is just a weird time for this one. Tarantino seems like a fall movie guy to me.

I just want to see this movie do well and not get drowned out by huge blockbusters.

That's just it. It's not a F&F movie without the family.

Save for Hobbs & Shaw, there's next to nothing in August. I think this and H&S can definitely co-exist and both make money all throughout next month. With virtually no completion until It: Chapter 2 on September 6, I see a fairly successful pathway for both movies (OUATIH and H&S).

Unfortunately, probably not. A group of us are going to see it at the ArcLight opening weekend and a couple of the guys are out of town this weekend. I guess I could go alone this weekend, but I'd honestly rather see it for the first time with my friends and do dinner after and what not. Let me see if there are even tickets left...

Looked like there were a couple tickets left for Sunday's showing, but when I tried to buy one it wouldn't let me. Bet they sold out while I was trying or the system hasn't caught up yet...

Yeah, I bet tickets sold out instantly, or close to, and the system's just been screwed up ever since. Ha, and yeah, that certainly would have been a nice chunk of change for you.

Brad Pitt described it as a combination of all of QT's previous movies, rolled into one.

Can't wait for next week.

I wonder what the mystic element or the surprise will be?

My theory that I posted a while back is that theory: Rick and Cliff are gay.

I've seen talk of a twist in a few interviews, so it's certainly possible.

That has been clear since the first trailer. And a rock hudson character makes sense.

Fantastic, all-encompassing interview...

And I take back everything I said about Tarantino likely not making his Star Trek movie a super hard R with all of the typical Tarantino trappings. I figured he'd dial it back a bit. But no, he literally says it's Pulp Fiction in space, and I think I'm even more interested now, despite how ill-advised this whole endeavor seems to be...

That interview is somewhat reassuring.

At least he's a Star Trek fan, and not just taking a known property into the body shop to bling it out. And it really sounds to me like the reason for asking Paramount/JJ about the R rating is to see how much freedom/control he would have, not necessarily because of something specific he wants to put in there.

And I didn't take his Pulp Fiction in Space comment too literally. For one thing, someone else has written the script, and there are things in it he likes. I took it to mean that if he does it, it's going to be his movie and have elements he likes or cares about. The comment in reaction to Simon Pegg's comments was funny.

Most importantly, he hasn't agreed to do it yet.

Quote:

For you, how important is mythologies of things like Bounty Law, even if they don't see the light of day?

TARANTINO: It's very important. I can go through Rick Dalton's filmography, film by film, every director he worked with, and the anecdotes on the set and how he got the role and what happened. Did it do well? Did it not do well? Is it a good movie? Is it not a good movie? In order.
This is why QT is the best.
