Ya I know about the railroad right there, but you could just put like 7-10 rows of bleachers...maybe even towards right center..
Just maybe a little loud...

Would have been REALLY creative to put a set of tall bleachers that went over the tracks --- when trains would come through, it would actually go under the bleachers.

I realize that many thing make this a bad idea, but regardles, it would have been cool.

completely worthless if they don't repair the dot matrix board with the batter stats.

taken 7-17-11

They have started removing the backing where the club boxes and press box will be. I guess they gave up trying to remove the letters since they are removing the backing anyway.

...and there is Kyle...waiting his turn at a make-over!

Thanks for the pics!

They only removed the letters where they needed to core the concrete and attach the chains.

From what you posted I'm assuming you are connected to the construction and have some "insider" information. If it's no problem could you give a little rundown of what the crew is working on in the coming weeks that may not be so obvious from still pictures. I can't get enough of the updates Vaughn does every month for the MSC renovation.

Thanks to you, Mason and everyone else for the pics and info.

According to Skanska, on tap for this week:

- continue the installation of 24" sewer pipe
- continue installation of main electrical feeders
- regrade Rt. field bullpen area
- demo remaining site sidewalks
- continue installing footing and wall for Rt. field bridge support (from concourse to Rt. field berm)
- excavate under stadium and use to build berms
- Building layout
- excavate for new dugouts
- finish removing precast as required for new suites.

These are the highlights for this week, weather permitting.

Looks like almost all the demo work complete.

If they get main sewage, water and electricl in, they can start laying the foundation for the councourses and we should see some steel beams and supports starting to show up.

When you think about it, it probably wouldn't be that different when it comes to stripping it down to it's bare bones.

I have been wondering what the concrete and rebar was for.

Essentially leaving a field access tunnel for Leo and paramedics

What's the point of a 24 inch sewer pipe? And why am I thinking of Spinal Tap?

OLSEN FIELD is officially gone.

Go check the website.

Finally it is down.

Olsen Field has not been touched... except by campers.

It's just the familiar amenities that they destroyed for monetary gain. You still think they're going to be better... I'm still laughing, knowing the best years at Olsen Field are gone.

Interesting. Seems like that will take a lot of earth and I take it structural integrity will still be fine after that?

TexasRebel = Drama Queen

The team dictates the "best years", not the amenities no matter how old or new.

I also hope it is not too plush. Facelift was long needed, but you need the hard core fans to make it a special atmosphere. The kind of fans that don't mind spartan condiitons.

Although I'm sure our record had a lot to do with it, Kyle Field has not been the same since the Zone was built. Don't want Olsen to be the same.

Texas Rebel has some serious mental issues.

Pulling out ~ 5 ft of earth from under the stadium and replacing it with select fill. This will make the ground more stable under the stadium for the new floors. Also lowering the floor level ~1 ft to make more headroom.

re-rout of an existing line.

The A&M "specialness" has worn off in recent years from an attendance standpoint. Maybe a renovation projection will get attendance going again. Somehow.

Way to merge two completely independent events to try and prove a point! You equated a new addition to a BUILDING to state how poorly A&M has done and fear a newer building might do the same to the baseball team?!? WOW!

Thank goodness the Yankees did not subscribe to that kind of logic as they replaced, arguably THE sports cathedral where 26 titles were won with a plush $1.6B new house...and won #27 during year one...

with that logic we should just leave it as is, throw up some lawn chairs and we'll be unstoppable

There probably is some truth to both sides. Sure, if the place is a dump it’s going to turn good recruits away. With that said, building a palace always seems to attract people with an entitlement issue. The newly minted DKR hasn’t exactly had the best showing of late.

I meant the letters on the press box.

I don't know what he was talking about.

My point is simply this, Kyke Field in terms of crowd noise that made it uncomfortable for our opponents. While some of it is attributable to our record until last year, I think some of it is the lower part of Zone brings in wealthier fans and they don't make a whole lot of noise. During OT against mizzou in RC's last year, it wasn't nearly the advantage for the Ags that it should have been.

I think that the fancier seating at a rebuilt Olsen may have the same effect. I also agree with the poster who noted that the intensity at Olsen has been down the last couple of years as well.

Hopefully, it helps our recruiting even more. RC thinks we will have one of the top facilities in the country for the next 20 years.
St Hedwig Aggie

I do not buy your reasoning for the following reasons.

Until the zone, the horseshoe extended WAY past the end of the OPEN end zone...

Even if these richer fans do not make as much noise, Kyle still holds ~10K more than it did before...

I am no sound expert but a "zoned-in" Kyle has to be louder than the open-ended pre-1999 Kyle

My conclusion: Kyle has not been as loud because of performance on the field, not because of its architecture...

But enough on Kyle...his turn will come soon enough! Olsen is going to be amazing...the envy of many collegiate baseball teams!!!!

I would like to introduce you to destructive interference.
BQBass13
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ahh, but you forget about constructive interference. If we all yell at the same frequency and the periods of our sound waves line up exactly right, we would sound twice as loud as we actually are! As incredible as that seems, it would take the same amount of ridiculous factors coming together at the perfect time for destructive interference to really affect noise levels. I would be willing to bet the amount of random constructive and destructive interference just about wash eachother out.

It's just another Corps trip boys, we'll march in behind the band.
Tex100
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You "buy" whatever you want. The former students and fans who sit in the bottom part of the Zone and the Zone Club don't yell like the students who sat in the horseshoe did. I've already attributed some of it to our record the last few years.

As for Olsen, I've also said a renovation was long overdue. Just hope it keeps the speial atmosphere it has had since it was built.
BeowulfShaeffer
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Students who sat in the horseshoe? You mean the high-school ROTC units with the gimme tickets? Or the opposing team's fans that were usually not making too much noise when their team was on offense? That covers the times when there were actual people in the horseshoe.

Much of the time the horseshoe was filled with fans that appeared to be cleverly disguised as empty bleachers...
