They are re-doing center field (seats, bullpen, concessions, etc) at RBIA.

Are they really going to make a turf batter's eye? I would really hate that.

No, it will still be natural grass.

Can we get this back to Olsen Field please? You can take that discussion to the Baseball Other forum.

We need some recent pics, the last ones I see are from 6 days ago. That is an eternity right now in the stage of construction they are in.

Just dropped in on this thread after driving by Olsen today. Can someone explain what the playground equipment near the George Bush/Wellborn corner is all about?

Mason said that he is not likely to receive any more tours, so his update pics will only be exterior shots and distant shots from beyond the left field fence. They've made a little headway on the bricks, but the rain slowed their progress.

There's always the construction cam.

I've been out of town since monday and I am currently near Rusk, TX driving back. Capt Dan sent me last weeks skanska update but it didn't contain any new pictures so I didn't post it from my hotel.

Wonder why the chair seats going in are green instead of maroon?
mason12
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Because the are the traditional baseball park look that coach childress wanted. They were probably cheaper too.

I wonder why people are just now discovering things like playgrounds and green seats are going in at Olsen. Old news for most of us...

Love that brick and the green seats.

Fitch, I don't have any connections, but I would assume the playground equipment is a simple method of enticing BCS kids to come to the game. Kids=$$$$$ because they need parents to come with them (more tickets already), and they always beg for drinks and food and hats and shirts.
Its also not a coincidence that the playground is right next to the road where all the kids can see it when they drive by.

Hope they do the same thing to Kyle when they renovate.

I hope they do the red brick on every buiding for the next 100 years so that the 2112 version of TexAgs can ***** that every building on campus is the same old tired red brick.

I can go outside and take a picture of a campus that is nothing but red brick buildings now...

it's not pretty.

And if they went with the 'traditional A&M' tan you would be weeping and wailing about that. In other words, whatever direction the renovations of Olsen took you were going to have an immediate knee jerk dislike of them. We all get it, you hate the work being done to Olsen. We are all tired of your crying about it.

I wouldn't have minded tan, it would have at least looked like home. ...but keep assuming.

Maroon benches, more foul area, a deeper outfield... those would have been improvements.

Blue Bell won't have the triples and ItPHRs that Olsen had. I'll miss them terribly.

Green seats, stands close to the action and a small park are all improvements to me.

So quit *****ing, they aren't going to make everyone happy, especially you apparently.

The red brick looks great, I really like the whole look. It is adding an Aggie style to a traditional baseball look.

TexasRebel apparently didn't learn from his previous ban...REALLY wish he/she/it would just go away already. Please don't come to any games at our beautiful Olsen, save the seat for someone who wants and deserves to be there.

When we played at Baylor in 1999 they were no where near finished with their new park. We sat on concrete as there were no seats. We had to walk all the way around to the right field corner to enter and avoid hard hat areas. As I remember the only bathrooms were down the left field line, which made for a hell of a round trip.

Oh, and Dave and Larry Bowen did radio from a folding table in the concourse behind first base along the fan concourse between the two seating levels.

We won't have any problems enjoying baseball come 2/17!

This is the post I was referencing.

That's why it is saved for me... if they put it in by the 17th, anyway. You will not find anyone with greater desire or merit to be there than me.

jkag and tigers +1

How can you not be excited about the new ballpark? We desperately needed the improvements and in 3 weeks we'll get to watch the Ags in one the finest facilities in all of college baseball. It seems impossible to find any negatives in that, but apparently Rebel has managed to do so.
