I'm confident it will be mostly done in time for ball come late February. I expect that the finishing touches will extend well into the season.

I bet Capt Dan will try his hardest to make sure it doesn't.

No way it is complete by feb. The structural work still has a way to go. Along with the MEPs, you still have extensive masonry work, and finishes. As long as it is complete enough to occupy by Feb, and my seat in 216 is ready, it does not matter to me either way.

I will sit on concrete steps if I have to.

That video renewed the excitement in me for this project. Sure hope it's wrapped up in time.

I loved the video. Things really are further along that I thought from looking at the exterior on the live web cam. Doubling the width of the concourse alone makes this project worthwhile. One of the things that I love about Olsen is that you can walk the concourse without missing a pitch. That creates traffic jams though.

I still think that the grass berm down the right field line is lame. Maybe $Bill will feel compelled to build permanent seating in that area now that we're going to the SEC. There are some huge parks in that league.

dabo man: maybe if we have some sellouts or more season ticket holders. When the only big games are the tu series and parent's weekend/maroon and white game weekend I don't think they want to spend the money on permanent seating there. Maybe with the SEC we can have bigger crowds. I do think going to the CWS will help this years attendance.

The seating I think they should have built in is down the 3rd base line. They are putting in a grass seating area between the current seating bowl and the bullpen. I bet more people will sit there than on the 1st base line. There will be shade or the sun on their back on the 3rd base side. The 1st base line you have to look back towards the setting sun.

I just wonder how many kids are going to get nailed by foul balls.
mason12

Sea Pony: I asked Capt Dan this the last time he gave me a tour. He didn't know exactly how far the net will go. He did say that the net that will be used will be thinner like most new ballparks have.

[retract statement]
It is my hope that they keep the same format as the old net but it would be my guess that all the seating will be covered.[/retracted]

Capt Dan: does the playground have its own net??

Muy bueno! The old net was terrible. I watched every game for four years from behind the net. You get used to it, but man that thing was obtrusive.

I meant on the berm. I liked the unencumbered view I had on the second deck. And the foul ball souvenir I have.
mason12
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That is the thing. The berm might have netting 3rd base side more likely than 1st base side. I hope it doesn't. I hope it covers the same spots as the old netting.

Here is a picture of where the pole that will hold the netting goes. The front base is for the netting pole and the second(back) is for the light pole. The netting system will be tensioncable

The thing you don't want is for the berm to turn into a slide/playground for kids like tcu's stadium. Not to mention the kids that I have seen hit by foul balls. If permanent seating is needed down the line in the future I would think that the berm would make it a easier install

ensign_beedrill: Ok I have gone back and looked at the new layout/new backstop and I am going to retract that statement. It looks like the netting can't go above the dugout without doing something radical.

With the new layout chainlink fencing isn't needed.

Old setup:

Look at the new wall:

Capt Dan do you know if anything is going above the dugout to stop people from the stands falling in it?

Capt Dan

Yes, playground is completely netted.
mason12
How long do you want to ignore this user?
So I figured out how the netting is planned.

You can see the cable coming from the pole near the bullpen and it looks like there is no fencing above the dugout. I wondering how the KKKKKKKs will be posted?

If that illustration is accurate, then we won't be playing too many night games.

If that illustration is accurate then we won't be a very well coached team.

Two things with that pic - 1, I thought Homokla retired
2) We're going to need a second and a third baseman.
