The only way this signing makes sense is if Gattis is then moved for a starting pitcher. But would Weiters even sign to be the backup, possibly getting some DH at bats, too?

Gattis is the cheaper option and in line for a better offensive year than Weiters. And I wouldn't rate his catching skills very far behind Weiters.

We'll see what happens, but this doesn't sound credible to me.

I don't know where this came from but it's a terrible idea if it's real. But to be fair, the article doesn't say the Astros are still interested - hell, this could have been crap from before the McCann deal - it just says they're a possible landing spot (could just be the dude throwing **** against the wall.

Like I said in the other thread I honestly didn't expect to see anything come back to us.

I thought they may have to just forfeit a low pick or two, but now that I see we're GETTING a 56 and a 75 PLUS cash I'm ecstatic.

That's what I'd like clarification on. What I'm seeing in articles is that the two draft picks and $2M go to the Astros. That's going to result in quite a large draft pool this year.

They award them to us. I feel good about it, but also surprised there isn't a harsher financial penalty paid to someone besides the Astros - given the precedent it could set.

Our pool will go from $6,755,100 to $8,608,300.. as stated in the article.

Just read an article that said these are St. Louis's top two picks. They don't have a first round pick.

Just read an article that said these are St. Louis's top two picks. They don't have a first round pick.
Exactly. They traded their 1st round pick for Dexter Fowler. Maybe because they figured they would lose it.

They didn't trade it for fowler. They gave it up because they signed fowler.

Not having a pick in the first 3 rounds is pretty brutal.

the Astros have picks: #15, #53, #56, #75, and #91 among the top 100.

the Cardinals not having a 1st round pick is a little bit of a downer

hell, we didn't sign a player until round 5... no wonder you don't recognize anyone. We signed Woody Williams and Carlos Lee trying to prolong the glory years. The Rangers' first round and Padres' second round picks didn't work out in our slot, but who knows who we would have picked. There were lots of quality players on the board. Hell Donaldson was still on the board for both of them.

Great point. Why not go get that starter we were on the fence about now if we think we can refill out prospects with a big draft day. It's not like we need a ton of young talent now at the big league level with so many youngins already playing every day.

I feel like they would have known they were getting two picks for awhile now. Maybe they were waiting to make it official or maybe they're just holding off until the trade deadline.
