I'm still in the wait and see mode (I think it's likely, but I'm holding off), but this guy is probably the most credible guy to comment on it today. IBWAA member and looks like he writes for the royals. 16k followers.

Just because it isn't a done deal doesn't mean it won't happen.

However, the longer this goes on the higher the chances are it doesn't happen. Reminds me a lot of the 2004 Carlos Beltran negotiation.

The only benefit for Beltran would be a one or two year deal where EE is 5 years. Beltran would be off the books when everyone hits free agency while the Astros would be locked in for at least $23 million/year for EE who would be in his late 30s.

That and EE can play 1B. Not sure I see the fit with Belt ran after the McCann signing. Gattis and McCann can DH so I'm not seeing the fit with Belt ran unless they want to deal Springer and let him play OF full time. Which would be a liability.

I liked him as a DH signing but it doesn't do much for me now.

Put McCann at first and let Beltran DH. McCann has played 29 games in the past at first. He makes more sense then letting Castro take reps during a game.
