I said a while ago that the three untouchables we had were Bregman, Altuve, and Correa. Everyone else is fair game but those three are the future.

Honestly, I'd rather keep Springer. We would have to give up more if he was the cornerstone of the trade, and he's one of the team leaders. I can't imagine this team without Springer. This might be more of an emotional opinion, but Id rather win hoping Springer keeps improving than hoping Bregman pans out.. and I'm not attached to Bregman, and I don't think he's a clubhouse leader type of guy for another 2-3 years.
Count me in.

Yes, he did get off to a 2/38 start when he was called up last year and that counts for something, but check out his numbers from Aug 6 (when he busted his 2/38 slump) and Sept 14 (his last game before his injury):

OPS: 1.032
HR: 8 (~32 normalized to a 600 AB season)

I do agree with others that IF Bregman is the only way to get Sale, we probably have to do it. But I would much much rather trade Springer.
I can find a lot of players with great 150 AB streaks that aren't good players. Were sticking our head in the sand to ignore the poor start too. Bregman may be the next big thing, but I don't see it based on last year's sample.
And yes, please do bring a list of rookies with 150 AB samples of that caliber that didn't turn out to be good players. I'm not saying they don't exist. I'd just like to see the proof.

I like Springer, but he has way too many slumps and fails in clutch situations for him to be untouchable, IMO
Springer is a fan favorite and a solid borderline All Star on good years. He's far from untouchable.

I love Springer... His defense and what he means to this organization is vastly underrated. But we do know what we will get out of him year in and year out. .265 avg .360 obp .820 OPS.

Not too bad. I follow the minors fairly closely and Tucker is the only one that hurts to me. Paul may be the real deal too, but I'm not sold.

Drafting Appel is 1000x more understandable than drafting an undersized outfielder with max 2 tools.
Appel was a consensus top 5, much less top overall, pick in two straight drafts. Bryant was a boom or bust guy, who like all Cubs prospects, panned out perfectly.

Sale went from worth less than Deshields to worth more than George Springer alone can offer. It's more a testament to how good he really is.

Bryant was pretty damn as close to a sure thing as you could get. He and harper were very close in tools and ability harper just got more media hype coming out
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think DeShields was selected partially because he was a highschooler and he would sign for under the slot bonus. We had 2 1st round picks and drafting someone who had more bargaining power would break the bank
