Teoscar is in the mix too. Maybe a straight platoon of him and Jake in CF.shano0603 said:
What's our outfield look like if we gave up Springer? Reddick in right, Aoki in left, and Marisnick in center? Gurriell plays left pretty often too?

What if we decide we don't wanna trade Springer or Bregman... So we try and get Jose Quintana instead? Offer them Reed and another prospect.... Or just go out and sign Rich Hill and see where we are halfway through the season.Ag_07 said:
Agree
I said a while ago that the three untouchables we had were Bregman, Altuve, and Correa. Everyone else is fair game but those three are the future.
Just trying to look at the pros and cons of a Bregman v Springer deal.
I wasn't specifically speaking to rookies only, but here are a few I found after a quick search.Deluxe said:I referenced the poor start in my post.aggie1906 said:Deluxe said:
Just for everyone's reference regarding Bregman's potential...
Yes, he did get off to a 2/38 start when he was called up last year and that counts for something, but check out his numbers from Aug 6 (when he busted his 2/38 slump) and Sept 14 (his last game before his injury):
AB: 158 (not an insignificant sample size)
AVG: .310
OBP: .380
SLG: .652
OPS: 1.032
HR: 8 (~32 normalized to a 600 AB season)
RBI: 32 (~128 normalized to a 600 AB season)
I do agree with others that IF Bregman is the only way to get Sale, we probably have to do it. But I would much much rather trade Springer.
I can find a lot of players with great 150 AB streaks that aren't good players. Were sticking our head in the sand to ignore the poor start too. Bregman may be the next big thing, but I don't see it based on last year's sample.
And yes, please do bring a list of rookies with 150 AB samples of that caliber that didn't turn out to be good players. I'm not saying they don't exist. I'd just like to see the proof.
EDIT: I'll help you out... Yaisel Puig would be a good example

A deal that would net the Astros Chris Sale would likely have to include a combination of Astros prospects in addition to Alex Bregman. A package including Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Forrest Whitley, David Paulino, Daz Cameron and Franklin Perez or Riley Ferrell would probably work for both sides.

I'm not sure I would make that trade if we had to include 5 other prospects with Bregman for Sale.

Wanna hit your head against the wall?
We are talking about trading Springer, Bregman, and / or a bevy of prospects for a guy that we could have drafted, but we instead drafted Delino Deshields.

Not this again
We aren't the only ones who didn't draft Sale and we've gone over the Bryant situation before..
How so?mazag08 said:
Drafting Appel is 1000x more understandable than drafting an undersized outfielder with max 2 tools.
Appel was a consensus top 5, much less top overall, pick in two straight drafts. Bryant was a boom or bust guy, who like all Cubs prospects, panned out perfectly.
