United pull out of Dybala talks over concerns of his desire to play for United and exorbitant wage demands and agent fees.

1000000% in agreement with this. Never got the sense the guy wanted to play here. Is Woodward learning?

So the window for incoming players closes in 4 days? 5 days? If they are going to lose Pogba and/or Lukaku its imperative they do it now and have time to replace them. Losing them next week would be rough.

Yep, yep, yep! We already did this with Angel DiMaria. If you aren't bought in, no thank you.

And there's also some reports that we've never been in with Bruno Fernandes. We need another center mid! If Maguire is our last signing I'm gonna lose my mind

Disappointed in what appears to be the end of the Dybala link. 100% agree with previous posters in that the last thing this team needs is someone who is not 100% committed. Can't pretend to know too much and dont want to sound like someone who just got dumped but he seems to think a little more of himself than maybe he actually produces...

Word is that Dybala tried to negotiate higher than our $10m/year offer. If this chump thinks he's worth more than that good luck finding another club willing to get even close to that offer

With Maguire officially official, I really don't think we'll see any other additions. Not saying we don't need any but I can't think of many teams who need as much as United do and get it in one window. If their 3 signings prove to be good additions who improve the team, I think you have to consider it a good window even if the team isn't strong enough to finish 4th (FWIW, I think it could be but that's dependent on Pogba staying and having his head on right for the entire season...and I don't think that's likely given the environment at Old Trafford).

Assuming that there aren't any more additions between now and Friday, it'll be interesting to see how United handle a strong bid for Pogba or Lukaku. Given that Lukaku was clearly second (or even third) choice last season with Ole and he hasn't played at all in pre-season, I could see the club selling him if Inter or Juve came in with a bid that gave them a small profit...even if they couldn't replace him with anyone other than from within. Maybe it forces more time for Mason Greenwood and maybe that's a good thing.

Pogba on the other hand...if RM offers 150 million for him on August 10th, we're kind of screwed. He can't be replaced adequately until January at the earliest but it's a strong offer that likely would unsettle Pogba even more if it were rejected. Rejecting it would likely drastically affect his on field performances. I think United would probably be best served to accept it. Either way, I think an official offer like that would drastically affect United's season whether it was accepted or not.

Lukaku has already checked out. He is in Belgium training with Anderlecht.

Zaha has supposedly handed in a transfer request. I think United have a 20% sell on clause with Palace. Could make a tidy sum of cash before the window closes.

word is leaking that an agreement has finally been reached between Inter and Manchester United for Lukaku. That is another ~75 million that can go to a CM
Dre_00

Inter have supposedly offered 65 million for Lukaku + 10 million in add-ons.

Looking unlikely that Lukaku will be replaced which means Mason Greenwood would be given a reasonable amount of time with the 1st team. I'm fine with that. Much rather that than an established talent that has to be paid half a million a week and still isn't happy because the team isn't in the CL. Give the kid a shot and see how it goes.

Looks like we are going to see a lot of McTominay and Perreria this season. If Pogba gets hurt, we will definitely have the worst midfield of the top 6.

I don't think those guys are bad players - just compared to what is on the other clubs.

....Lukaku officially off to Inter Milan....

Maybe Angel Gomes? We'll see how it goes but could be a long, bad season if the kids don't come through and/or players like Fred don't play significantly better.

So the squad improved at the back 4, got worse and lost depth at midfield (and if Pogba leaves after today it will get markedly worse) and got worse and lost depth up top.

This window was a disaster. I know there are rumors of the Glazers looking to sell. This window looks like what you would do if you were cashing out in the next year or so. Minimizing expenses and selling assets of value and converting them to cash. If they unload Pogba after today for cash it will really look that way.

yep, really disappointed. Was hoping to get support in the midfield for the loss of Herrera and/or replace Matic. Ed Woodward needs to go.

And odds are Pogba is going to mentally check out by December. If the young kids don't grow up fast this is going to be a pisser of a season. And don't get me started if Matic (bless his broken down tired legs) is a regular starter.

taken from another site but summarizes my feelings...

"the Glazers and Ed Woodward continue their circus of catastrophically underwhelming management"

I am in complete agreement that Woodward and everyone else up top have completely effed things up since they took charge and SAF left. It's a disaster and they deserve all the criticism they receive for what they've done. That said, I think this window was probably managed better than almost every other window in the last couple of years.

Like it or not, 7 years of gross incompetence has taken its toll and fundamentally changed what type of club we are. We're a club that makes money like it wins league titles but we are a 6th place club on the pitch...at best. It sucks but that's what happens when you have 7 years of transfer history that more or less reads like a used piece of toilet paper. Given that's who we are now, no truly established elite player is going to come here unless you throw gobs of money at them. And we've seen how that works...it doesn't. Because while elite players want to get paid they also want to win and play in elite competitions. 7 years of mostly failure have proven that they can't do that here. So yeah, maybe you convince one or two to come here by adding a 0 to their current paycheck but in the long run, if they aren't committed to the team and the cause, they are going to fail. MLS learned that (for the most part) and it seems like someone at United has finally learned that (probably Ole).

So if you rule out overpaying for established, capable of winning the league talent because their heart isn't in it, you're left with either A) trying to find the potential for that level of talent outside of your team that no one knows about yet or B) trying to find that the potential for that talent from within. Seems to me that A is very hard to do given the sophistication of scouting networks now. Not impossible but challenging unless you have a top notch operation and United don't anymore...at least not relative to their peers. B) is a lot easier and has saved United from the abyss once before. Hopefully it can do it again though there are certainly no promises.

Anyway, when you look at United's window, who they got and who they were linked to...I think it makes sense. I would have loved to added talent to the midfield but does anyone think Bruno Fernandes is a can't miss talent that can lift us into the top 4? Not saying it's impossible but he's about to be 25 years old and has had exactly 1 stellar season and 1 pretty good season for a team in a league that is nowhere near the quality of the EPL. So he's neither a young potential talent or an established league winning talent. I can see why no one would want to pay 70 million for him. Harry Maguire and AWB should make the backline immensely better. They seem to actually want to be here.

Apologies for killing the thread with my rant. Perhaps this will get it going again.

Tuanzebe on the bench which leads me to believe that he's ahead of Smalling and Jones on the depth chart.

Good luck vs the fighting pulisics (he's on the bench). I'm sure nbc sports will obsess over it.
