Too much smoke around Sancho for that NOT to happen at this point. Newest rumors i have been reading are Pau Torres from Villareal. He has a 50mil release clause, but would be nice to have a good, young CB (he's 23). Hopefully Woodward doesnt trip on his dick with this one.
Also, was reading that if CP sell Zaha, United would recoup 25% of the transfer fee. would be nice to have a little extra change to go after some depth targets if/when Woodward and Co blow their load for Jadon.

The spirit of the transfer (relatively young, left footed, good but not an automatic replacement for Maguire or Lindelof) is a good one. I don't think United need to go all crazy and spend 100 million on another CB. There are other priorities.

Sancho is legit
Alexis is gone to Inter on a permanent deal...but he's leaving for free. Still, his 7 million a year wages are off the books.
And it seems like Sancho is virtually done. Seems but lots of reports saying it is just a matter of structuring payments and add ons. If both of these happen in the next couple of days, that would be one hell of an improvement.

Try close to 20 million per year off the books....his new deal with Inter is for the "bargain rate" of 7 per season. Supposedly United were asking for 15million for the transfer, but getting the dead weight off the books was significantly more valuable.Dre_00 said:

Paying players what they do has been Woodward and Co's biggest issue when trying to transfer out players. I'll have to find the article, but it discussed how transfer fees arent typically the issue with trying to send out some of these guys that cant find the first team anymore, but its their salaries that the new clubs dont want to pay (especially when these guys would walk into a Lazio or Benefica of similar, even a Milan or Madrid, and be one of, if not the, highest paid player by a wide margin)

Angel Gomes has signed for Lille and was then promptly loaned out to Boavista. Which is a little odd because he presumably left United because he didn't see a path to first team football and didn't want to be loaned out...so he signed for a lesser club who promptly loaned him out?

and on another note, lindleof is a much better player than smalling and gives United the flexibility for Wan Bissaka and Luke Shaw to get up the pitch by having enough athleticsm to play out wide. only thing smalling has on him is maybe physicality and ability in the air. Smalling got beat like a rented mule last season by the front lines of nearly everyone in the Prem. Lindelof certainly isnt perfect, but the back line was much better this season vs last...

De Gea has been...not good.
Nobody rates Lindeof as good enough and yet...
United allowed the 3rd fewest goals in the league only 3 more than Liverpool. Now of course part of that was due to a style of play that at times was compact and defensive focused but...36 goals allowed suggests that the individual criticisms for the defensive spine are perhaps a bit overblown.
