Ok. Good news and bad news. I'll go bad news first.

Due to certain....reoccurring circumstances....we may either have to place certain individuals on the TSA no fly list or implement a "if you kill a pteranodon you replace it before you fly again" policy.... RIP all 3 of them from last night.

The good news: Kyle Field design is done!!!!!!



The less good news.... It takes roughly 3200 walls (not including any interior walls we may want) and 2300 foundation/ceiling tiles.... Yikes. It will look so awesome when if we build it. I have in mind the way to add the "seating sections" but could not depict that very well, but I left it in there on one side in case anyone can decipher it. I have no real way of calculating the ramps it will require, but I'm sure it will be well in to 1000. That can come at the very end, though. Get to crafting!!!

Only 1 of the pterandon KIA's was completely my fault. The other 2 just happened to occur while I was using them (thanks to the buggy game). I'll take 1/2 a pterandon's worth of responsibility for each.

So 2 pterandon KIA's were my fault, but I tamed an Argentavis, which is worth like 1.5 pterandons.


So, net, we only lost 0.5 of a pterandon last night.

Ha, how about every time someone loses a dino, they have to mea culpa on here with a story. That way we can at least be entertained and laugh at misfortune.

Alright, so here's a layout of the castle Bru posted. It's quite large. Max width is 81 floors and max height is 34 walls. This would take a long time, months probably. The platform just to build on would be 6,000+ ceilings.

It's obviously ambitious, but the good news is I think we can build it over the little bay our current base is on, so we can use that until it is enclosed. The exterior walls are our fence so there would be no need to build something around it, all dinos can be inside the building itself. The first floor interior space is about 7 times larger than our current fenced in area, including the water. Upper levels give us tons of room for expansion. There can even be a Pteranodon perch on top so we can lock them up and forget to give Mid and Wee the passcode.

If we want to do something this crazy, I can make level by level layouts so it is organized. We just have to gather a few million materials. If we aren't all max level by the end of this build the game is broken.

That would probably be the coolest thing anyone has ever built in this game. But it also seems.....impossible. Especially with server wipe possibilities.

OK. Here we go.


I wanted to tame an Argentavis, so I took phatty the pterandon and we flew over to the nearest mountain. I aggro'd an Argentavis, and kited it all the way back to the base. They have a short attention span, so I had to fly slow and it was nipping at my heels the whole way. By the time I got him to the base, phatty's stamina was nearly depleted.

We land, I start shooting the Argentavis full of tranq arrows, and the game lags like crazy. Somehow during that lag, the Argentavis (who had been attacking phatty) kills phatty, while they're both flying in circles half a foot above the ground. He then proceeds to eat phatty

Eventually, I tranq him, and he's down. But during the taming process, I notice not one but TWO alpha raptors at the plateau ridge near the base. In order to scout them out, I grab another pterandon and fly over the area they're at. Unfortunately, the combination of server lag and Comcast succeed in getting me kicked from the server while I'm in mid-air above the alpha raptors.

This happens not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES. Each time, the pterandon lands. The first time, he's fine. The second time, he's fine. But the third time, he gets killed by the flying bugs during the 15 seconds I'm off the server . In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have been on a pterandon knowing my connection was crap. But still, not entirely my fault, so I only accept 1/2 blame.

15 minutes later, both alpha raptors were getting extremely close to our base (and the KO'd Argentavis). Bru, Wee, and I go out to a large rock where the raptors are. The rock is high enough that the raptors can't get to us, and we can fill them full of arrows. To get onto the rock, we used the final pterandon. Wee came back with some arrow refills, and landed the pterandon on the rock. Bru's crossbow broke, and I was out of arrows. So to swap crossbows, I placed my crossbow on the pterandon. And as soon as I closed the inventory, he flew off and landed not 20 feet from the raptors. He was promptly eaten

Again, not my fault. But I was the last one to interact with him, so 1/2 blame.

So last night I helped Fiarei down and tame a Pteradon inside our cliffed area. Too easy. Ended up at 64 and so I (like normally) go to unclaim him so F could take ownership.... not sure WTF happened but he immediately went agro on something and was promptly shredded by Sexy Rexy. fug.

I'll help get him another tonight but felt bad as it was JUST tamed and he didn't even get a chance to ride it.

Technically? Yes. I mean there is an admin player on the server, [TexAgs] Aggie is the steam user, forgot the character name, but that is the only full-time admin character. To be used for admin stuff like banning, destroy old buildings, etc. Would not spawn in resources tho as its so easy to get them with the current resource multipliers.

With the number of ppl on the server we could do Kyle field. I'm curious if I make a wall, can someone from another tribe take it and place it. I know different tribes can't build close to one another so only one tribe can build it.

If you can use another's wall, then we could donate some. Kyle field could be our PvP arena. Another option for flat land is if there is a forest we could chop down.

I'm pretty sure if we all made walls, floors, etc. and put them in a box, anyone can grab and place them. Can't wait for tribe alliances to be implemented!

Mother of God that is insane! That being said, it looks totally badass. If we really want to do it, I suppose I'm in.

One comment that I saw right away. You have regular stone dino gates directly behind behemoth gates. This means our big dinos can't actually make it in. You would need to do 2 sets of behemoth gates.



Also, idk that we have the capacity to build Kyle Field AND the castle. I'd want whatever we build to be DinosMatter home base rather than a public arena. It would probably need to be a whole lot bigger to be a public arena anyways. There really doesn't end up being that much space on the "field"

I think it's possible to use crafted items. I've never tried but don't see any ownership associated until it is placed and considered a structure.

I really like the Kyle Field PvP arena idea. Bru's layout would need to be expanded unless it is just a 1v1 as the "field" area isn't that big. If someone on the server is artistically inclined, they could use the new paint feature to paint players on metal billboards to be used for obstacles. Would be pretty impressive.

Look at the front elevation on the castle. The 2 regular stone dino gates above the behemoth gate are on the second level. The second level is set back from the first level walls by 2 spaces. That creates a walkway around the second level. With the scale of this thing, I didn't think regular doorways were epic enough so I used regular dino gates even when they wouldn't typically be used by dinos.

Yeah it's a new feature they added a few patches ago. You can use the paint interface on signs and billboards. I haven't tried it yet (not artistic unless in a CAD type capacity) but I imagine it works like MS Paint. I've seen some amazing things painted on the forums.

I just used Excel and colored the cells. Copy/paste into Paint and save the image before uploading.

So.... The big dinos can only walk around in that narrow corridor? There isnt enough space in that for them to turn around even, unless I am visualizing that wrong.

A few more notes on the castle design.

The center "+" shaped area is 13 blocks high (behemoth gate + 1). Plenty of room for dinos and an epic feel.

The 4 corners with the regular dino gates have 2 levels. The bottom "ground level" is 4 high (regular dino gate) with a ceiling that creates the floor for the second level. This is currently 9 tall to match up with the center "+" but could be split. The stacked dino gates were the closest thing I could get to the arches in the picture but also let us open it up for some great views and let us light it up for night time screenshots.

In front of the behemoth gates is just an entryway with towers and maybe an archway. Not sure how that would look since there are no curves. That could be eliminated on one or more sides if it doesn't make sense, like facing water. Building the platform out that far however allows us room to maneuver dinos around the outside. The entryways take a relatively small amount of materials as well.

The second level (light blue) should all start at the same height, but the center "+" shape has a higher ceiling. The corners are 6 tall and the center is 10 tall. The whole level is set 2 spaces inside the first level walls, to create a walkway and look more correct. This could be set back more if we want a wider walkway.

The third level (green) is set in the center and on top of the second level. It is 6 blocks tall and if you were walking on the ceiling you'd be 29 blocks above the platform. Gives us a high vantage point and a tower to protect our gold and kidnapped rescued princesses.

One more crazy idea. If we want it to be more accurate, all ouside walls should be 2 deep to form a realistic structure. I doubt castles were held together with stone veneer and 1x6's. Using the ceilings we build on, both sides of a ceiling tile would have walls extending up from it. Crude ASCI drawing from above:

The interior corridor is 19 blocks wide once you are past the behemoth gate. Our current pen is 22 wide. Maybe not enough room for a bronto to turn around, but that's why there are behemoth doors on both ends, you can just drive straight through.

Absolutely. Even as an early release game there is quite a bit to do and some real danger so you are definitely in survial mode. The developers are great at listening to the community and are always adding features. Once it is fully developed, polished and optimized I think it will be the best of the gather/build/die/start over games. It's already better than most I've played.

Now come join us in gathering stone so we can build the castle.

The second wall (inner, light blue) is raised up 13 blocks. The dinos would pass under the regular dino gates after going through the behemoth gate. Look at the front elevation rather than the overhead floor plan. It shows the 2 regular dino gates above the behemoth gate. The overhead floor plan shows all 3 levels (color coded and matching the front elevation) from above, but not all of those walls will extend down to the ground. Only the darker blue walls and teal towers.

I checked the size of the gates in a single player game, behemoth is 12 high (exactly) and 7 wide (roughly). Regular gates are 4 high and 2 wide.
