They were shot from a hovering Argent. I also hit him with 87 metal arrows and 100+ advanced rifle bullets when he got stuck, all headshots. All of that hurt him, he was bleeding but still wasn't down. Then I jumped on the rex and finished him off in a few bites.

Yeah, the alpha rex took about 2500 health out of mine, granted, it should have been less, but I was having re-mounting issues after trying to get the alpha's attention.
Did that t-rex have the red glow? I'm not seeing it in the screenshot (just red skin coloring) and want to make sure they don't look different than the typical alpha

Most of them were found while we were out killing things to level our trex. We covered a lot of ground. I also spotted a couple from the air - they are easy to see, especially at night.

Ok, so I got my gaming rig rebuilt and it's still l**** as ****. Running a AMD hex core with a GTX 680 and 16 gigs of ram, so I should be able to run it decently but it's not wanting to cooperate. It ran better on my laptop. Any ideas?

Did you update your drivers? Particularly your gpu? You may also try to tweak your settings - I don't know if anything would run this game at 60fps on epic.
No joke, I was a little sad when it didn't recommend the highest settings when I built my gaming rig. GTX 970.
Try playing around with the checkbox settings under the Sky and Ground sliders. Those helped me out.

I did have problems in the cave last night - it took forever for it to load when Wee and I ran inside. I think I'll have to turn my settings way down when we do a cave run.

This after their updates on how structures render. It's a lot better than it was, in the alien server, our main base had 4-5 large separate structures and the game would freeze.
Sometimes slowing down on approach helps some.
There's been a lot lag and rubber banding over the last few days as well.

Also, when I was looking at reddit to read about the patch, I came across an idea. Many of us (myself included) have inadvertantly hit a whistle command that called all our dinos, including our egg farm. We could fill up our egg farm dinos with rocks so they can't move, even if accidentally called.
Oh, and did someone say bronto base?
I think you can just unbind that dreaded 'J' key.
