Server is down.

Hmm - logged into the control panel and it says it's up. Check again and I'll restart if needed.

It's not showing up and when I try though Steam it shows the IP address and saying it's not responding.

I restarted the server, but it might need an update

It is still not up but I believe there were two updates. The last update was to fix the previous one.

server host changed their site address so had to wait till the new address was reachable before i could update. Should be good to go soon.

So I just got this game for xbox and pc.. is there anyway to have the xbox controller work as good on pc like on xbone? Hard to navigate inventory with controller, I think you cant.

This game has made me want to get back into gaming. I've been debating on whether to get a new pc or Xbox. I prefer playing games like this on pc but others on Xbox/ps4. After watching a lot of gameplay, i can't imaging having to cycle through items with a controller versus being able to use a mouse.

From what I've been told, you better have a better than average gaming PC to run this if you go that route.

Ran the trial on Xbox. I had an hour to run around.

Got killed by a snake within seconds of waking up the first time, killed by a dinosaur minutes on my revive and murdered many many times by folks running around.

Question is, is it worth the $40 if I'm just playing by myself with no friends? Seems like a huge waste to just run and grab items only to be killed every few minutes and lose it all.

Yeah, that was the appeal of the Xbox honestly. I don't NEED a super jazzy PC for anything other than games. I could just leave it hooked up to my tv and use it for other things, but an Xbox would have all of the apps and everything with it (not to mention other games I've been wanting to play like Assassin's Creed). I feel like I'm leaning toward Xbox based on the cost and varied uses I'd put it to. I really do prefer using a keyboard-mouse combo for games like this though.

I would prefer a PvE server. I want this game mostly for the experience of taming, building, etc. PvP looks fun but frustrating. Can you pay for your own server for Xbox like you can for PC? I want to have the entire map to myself or those I allow to join instead of sharing it with 70 people.

I am interested in trying this on xbox and joining some other guys. My son and I would both work off the same account.

OK so I played a good amount on the XB1 over the holiday break. I feel I'm at a major advantage over those who have never played PC since I'm already knowing exactly what I want to do when I'm ready to cycle through things or perform pretty much any action so no, I don't think it's terribly slow compared to the PC version. Some thing were easier and some things harder. inventory load times were about the same so you always waiting on some action to complete (moving items, etc) and I'm trying to learn actions that I know are there (from the PC) that aren't as easy to figure out (didn't figure out how to whistle until losing a few dinos who went LEEEROY JEEnkins on much stronger dinos.)

Overall, I think it's a great console game and LOVE that it pauses while I'm not playing (single player). BUT thta is single player... multiplayer is where the fun really ramps up and I did NOT get to play any multi on the XBOX.
Probably the best time I've had playing ARK was when Agdog, WrecknCrew, and I just started out and had to make our way across the island to find a place to start our base. Fun times. Also, when the three of us played survival of the fittest, that was also a blast. I don't know if SotF will be on console or not.

Since this is the cool place to be for ARK players, I just started playing on XB1 last night and love it so far. I tried a PVP server initially and quickly said, "nope" after I was killed 5 times by a-hole players. my GT is TheFeelOfCotton if any of you want to get a server going hit me up.

I recently upgraded my computer, and went looking for the server last night. It was gone. I knew it would be, and was inevitable as there weren't enough of us playing to justify it. Still makes me sad.

However, Ark was super beautiful, and defaults to high/epic on my new build, despite the fact I'm still running my old 960. I was playing in seconds rather than the 10 minutes it used to take me to log in. Is that because they finally optimized it, or did my new machine and SSD make that much of a difference?

WeeAg, Funk, Creto, Texag, are any of you playing anywhere else?

Lots of hours in this game, tons of fun, base building was fun up until you were indestructible. A few of us tried the survival of the fittest setup. Now that was insane fun.

Wouldn't mind getting a group to run some of those at some point. Or if you guys find a server let me know. Starting out with nothing was always my favorite part

I went to add you and we're already friends on Steam. I wouldn't mind running SOTF, but I'll need to get back up to speed. The real problem is time - are those still all-day matches, or do they have shorter versions you can run anytime?

Ya, sorry meant to reply. The server went down late last week. Not enough interest to support $25/mo. I did see the added a new set of servers for $10/mo. but I can't imagine the lag if several people were on at once. Maybe they worked all that out though. Maybe I will spin one up on trial and see how it does.

At midday there were 3-4 servers going SoTF. Probably more on the weekend.

Glad to be back! I'm glad to be back in the game, and looking forward to contributing. When we newbies find ourselves online by ourselves, I understand the priority is gathering crystal and staples like stone and meat for paste. Anything else (other than don't be stupid and lose gear or dinos)?



In other news, I have a memory leak on my new computer, and even after turning down settings and following the optimization guide linked earlier in this thread, I'm still occasionally crashing to desktop with a Windows 10 error stating I ran out of memory. Any other ideas? My bottleneck is my old 960 card, but it was running the game fine and very stable on my old PC.
