So, in an effort to give mid a run for his money, I started my day...
Earlier in the week I had tamed a scorpion, but I figured she needed a mate, so I grabbed one of the pteranodons and headed out. I found a male scorpion that would fit the bill, so I swooped down to grab him. Unfortunately, this particular pteranodon could not handle the weight, so dice.
That got me thinking. What we really need, instead of a mate for this scorpion, is an argentavus. So I head off to the ol' big peak mountain. It takes a bit of scouting to find a spot to land that:
- a) I can walk on
- b) doesn't have sabertooths running around
- c) doesn't have a random t-rex (how the hell did he get up there???)
- d) has an argent somewhere in the neighborhood
So I finally find a place to land, and leave the pteranodon behind. I've spotted my prey and I'm heading down and across the mountain some... and suddenly, without the slope of the mountain changing, I'm falling! Oh, and look, I'm falling straight towards the argent I was going to hunt, this could be good... nope, there goes 3/4 of my health. Oh damn, now I've fallen into the argent. And I'm dead. Crap.
Alright, time to grab another pteranodon and head back out, hoping that the first one hasn't been beset upon by who knows what. I'm pretty sure he's safe, so first order was to locate what was left of my corpse. I get back to the mountain, and wouldn't you know it, that blasted argent is camping my bag. In a sheer feat of luck (and some stupidity) I successfully made a dive bomb attempt to grab my gear, hop back on the pteranodon, and get out, quickly grabbing the first pteranodon on the way. Whew. Catastrophe averted. For now.
Now I have to drop the second bird back off, so another round trip back to the mountain. At this point, I decided I needed a better (flatter) hunting ground, so I head around the mountain and locate the TexAgs and Dinos neighbor bases. This looks like a great place to stage my next attempt.
Unfortunately, as I look around, I see there's just a bunch of higher level argents around, and I know I'm not going to have time for that. But hey, there's an ankylo! I could use one of those. So I go about getting him knocked down with no problem. Things are looking good. Then one of those pesky argents (mentioned previously) decided they wanted to play with my pteranodon. Set to still not lose one, I managed to fight him off, but quickly realized that wasn't going to be the last threat, as I spot four sabers working their way down the mountain.
I figure this is a good time to do some spotting from above and see if I can possibly separate them out and remove the threat. Misfortune strikes again, for as I was switching from my spotting glass, I had intended to fly forward. Instead, I evidently thought it was a great time for me to jump off the pteranodon and dive bomb the sabers below. They survived. I didn't.
Crap, now the pteranodon is right above the sabers! I quickly grab another pteranodon and fly back out there. Miraculously, he'd stayed flying above their heads, so they lost interest... especially once they found my sleeping ankylo. Damn. A quick recovery of the second pteranodon was successful, but I still needed to grab my gear, and not get two pteranodons killed in the process. This is where TexAgs base came in handy, as I was able to park them on the roof, while I dashed out to pet the kitties that were keeping my gear company. A quick dash back and I manage to hop back on a pteranodon and get everyone (except the ankylo) safely out of dodge.
It's about this point I'm rethinking my idea of taming an ankylo, so I head back to the base, before I manage to get a pteranodon killed.
Alright, so now to figure out something else to tame. So I grab our raptor and head out. Hey, look there's two spinos playing in the river. Wonder if I can split one off to tame. No, the first one would rather play with a couple of trikes and a turtle, which proceed to kill him. Well, dang. That was the one I wanted, not the other, higher level one.
But look, there's now a raptor. This guy could use a mate, let's go grab.... hey stop attacking that trike, he's going to... *sigh*... kill you. *mutter* Stupid dino.
Oh well, what the heck, we'll give the other spino a go.
Plinking at him for quite some time, he seems more interested in the dragonflies that are harassing him, than the tranq arrows I'm peppering him with. I'm beginning to think this just might wor.... oh crap, he's coming after me now! Why can't I get on my raptor!?!?! Oh now, he's going to kill the raptor. I'm not losing him damnit!!!
Somehow, and I still haven't figured this part out, I managed to not only get on the raptor, but get away safely.
Lesson learned, I'm leaving the spino alone... for now. But what can I find to tame that would be useful? A bit more searching in the area and I find a carno. I get him down, without much fuss, but it seems every dilo within a mile has decided this is now a great place to hang out. Thus began the extinction level efforts. Okay, we're clear of dilos now, and the tame is coming along nicely.
Oh, hell. It's that spino again. Having learned my lesson earlier, I call on some tribe mates to come help put this guy down before he decides to come eat my carno, because, by golly, I'm taming him damnit! And, as he should, he went down in easy fashion.
All this to say, my looking to get a scorpion, argent, ankylo, spino, raptor, and spino again, finally resulted in a carno, and most importantly, no dinos were lost in this adventure.
