It's somewhat bloody, especially now that dinos show battle damage as they are attacked. You could find some twitch feeds to see the gameplay.

The other side is playing on a public server, you never know what people will say.

I wouldn't recommend that he play on an official server because of all the racism, massive trolling, obscene language/character names and glut of chinese hackers since there is no one there to deal with it. Find a decent private server that has sensible admins that are usually on.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but from what I understand, you can just create your own local instance and save it, and reload it anytime you want to play. There wouldn't be anyone else on the island, for whatever that's worth.

He can always just play a single player game. No griefing or inappropriate chat. He'll still get the survival experience, just against dinos and the environment, rather than against other players as well.

If you want to play together, a local server can be run on your computer for anyone you want to join.

Sadly I broke the "No lost pteradon" streak just now. I flew to a beacon and happened to get an apprentice stego saddle bp (perfect for the new stego right!?). Unfortunately, I opened my inventory while flying back and a few seconds later, just started falling off. Apparently my chute didn't open early enough to save my life, or the blue print... If someone finds Jeffadona, please bring her home!

I take it you didn't recover your body. Where were you flying when you died?

I got dismounted when my client disconnected. About an hour later I found the Argent hovering in the same spot 300 feet in the air. They don't lose stamina when no one is mounted so as long as he wasn't attacked by another dino or player, he will still be where you left him. If you know the general area you dismounted, fly there and use the 'J' button to have all follow you. Jeffa should start following your flyer and you can lead him back to the base.

I did attempt to both find my body and ptera, but was unsuccessful. It was somewhere southeast of the main base.

Agreed, but how do you determine the players? From their perspective, popular streamers will also bring more publicity than us average joes.

Nope. As long as you uploaded to the Ark, any server that has "tribute" downloads enabled should be able to receive them.

Looks like there will be a server reset on TCOV.

What the heck happened?

Winter is coming...

no but for real, a reset will happen next Monday, 8/10. Will be a wipe for a fresh start. You'll be able to upload your character and dinos to the Ark server to transfer to another server or download for local play at any time from now till then.

The hope is that since it will be a fresh install, a lot of old stuff will be gone that was just leftover from Alien's Land will be cleared out allowing for players to choose where ever they want to start over, but mostly to attract new players who might be wanting to start out but didn't want to be so behind everyone else so if you know some friends who want to play, this is a great time for them to start on TCOV's.

That said, we do plan on having 1-2 day(s) (not sure how long out that will be yet) where we WILL allow for transfers back to the server once the players on the server are caught back up level wise (close to cap). That would be at least a few weeks for sure and you will have to contact me to get whitelisted since it will be password/whitelist protected during that time (attempt to stave off griefers/cheaters).

Yes it stinks to reset/lose your stuff but it was not up to me so don't shoot the messenger. There are however a few options for you if you do play on that server and are not interested in starting over that I can chat with you about in game/through steam chat.

Yeah, I'm about to go on vacation so I won't be on for a couple weeks anyway. It will be interesting to see who's playing where when I get back.

I'll be honest, I thought when we went to TCOV a big reason for that was so we wouldn't have to worry about the uncertainty of something like this happening outside of our control.

This game was just announced for XB1 via their preview program this winter. That means we will get to play it during development, before the official release next year sometime.

Ya, same. We should have had a wipe coming into TCOVs so all the old stuff from ppl who would never have be on the new server would never had been there. To be honest, I just want to play where everyone else is so if DinosMatter leaves the server that would really stink. Please let me know if ya'll are leaving for sure so I can see what my small group wants to do.

I do have a smaller private server (Aggie Nation) that Agdog, wreckncrew and I started fresh the other day. It's only a 30 seat server but anyone is welcome to join that one, and we'll never hit the 30 cap or have a reset. It's password protected so you would need to message me. Also, i would allow character and dino transfers over once I got you whitelisted (only allowing this once because TCOVs is going to be reset, after that downloads would be disabled). That server is really inexpensive and will be going no where (same host as TCOVs) and has resource gathering and day/night settings the same as TCOV but perm 2x taming. AgDog, wreck, and I will continue playing on our server as well as TCOVs (unless that just has like no fellow Ags playing on it). What would be worst case scenario for me is that everyone leaves and then there are like 5 servers with 3-4 players on each. Best case would be everyone restarting on TCOVs and sticking together, but I already know some simply do not want a restart. Also, this would be a great time to get more people on the TCOV server since they will not be behind in progress.

Just an option. Another would be for me to get a backup for someone to restore on their local host and all your stuff (buildings, etc) will be there but so would everyone else's buildings/bases which is so cluttered around the map.

If the reason is just to clear out old bases to make room for new tribes, why don't we just destroy the ones that are abandonded instead of wiping the whole thing. I'm sure there's a log of players that have signed on since the server change, or at least in the last couple of weeks. Make a whitelist for those players/tribes and spawn in a bunch of C4 and rocket launchers and have a day where everything gets blown up. I know I'd be willing to help and I'm sure others would too. I think it would be fun.

I guess I skimmed over the part about wanting new players to not be so far behind. The problem with a wipe is in a few months, half the players will have quit and we'll have to do it all over again to attract new players.

Server settings might be more effective. I don't know all that are available in the config files, but since they released the dev kit a mod may be available or easily written. Higher spawn rate of supply drops (which are mostly white and green) with a large increase in items would help new players. Faster taming would help everyone.

I haven't seen anyone griefing lower level players on this server, so I'm not sure why the level range matters as much. They can join a tribe or start one of their own and gain players. Once they are higher level then we can have fun in PVP if they want.

I agree with Funk in that character level does not make a big difference in this particular server. DinosMatter has players maxed out all the way to single digit levels.

I wouldn't mind a reset so much if TCOV cranked the resource spawn and gather rate up to max level so that rebuilding is easier and faster, since losing all we built is the most agonizing thing about resets. I also think that dino tame should be set to 2X, since most of us are more casual players and never get the big dinos simply because we do not have the time it takes to sit there and tame one.

I'd also vote to reset sooner rather than later if it is indeed going to happen. If it waits until Monday that is basically just a week I can't play on server since there would be no point to it.

Also, I was told at one point that part of the reason for resetting was to enable mods. Is that correct? If so, does everything have to be reset every time a new mod is implemented? I definitely do not want to stick with TCOV if that is going to be the case.

Is the private 30 cap server mentioned mod enabled? Does it plan to be if not and will it have to be reset at that point as well?

While having my high lvl dinos and survivor are nice on TCOV, it has been a ton of fun starting over. Tlhings were getting easy once you get to a certain level.

When wreck, 2k, and I started a fresh a few nights ago, we spawned in the same area and started out attempt to get to a certain location. Being attacked by sabers/raptors/etc along the way, trying to just survive everything being able to kill you was exciting. And for the record, ants/flying ants SUCK at low level!

While having the best of everything is a goal, I guess I also enjoy the challenge of starting new with nothing.

Yes, mods are already enabled (non installed yet). Never a reset, just restarts when they are installed.
