In a world where genuine believers in Mormonism, Scientology, flat earth theory, young earth creationism, the WWE, the moon landing conspiracy and the vaccine/autism link exist, I really don't understand why anyone would be surprised by any nonsensical belief propagated via social media.

Like I can prove to anyone, right now, that the earth isn't flat and that we landed on the moon. Yet millions of people around the world believe such nonsense. Why would Lindsey Clancy saying she did it necessarily convince everyone that she did?

Could also be that they just can't agree on which charge to convict her of. Even if they all agree she was not insane, if they can't agree on the actual charge it'll still be a hung jury.

Because the prosecutions own witness said she didn't remember doing it. When told that she did it, she then went through the process of trying to remember it, which is being presented as a "confession". He (or maybe one of the other witnesses) even said false memories can be implanted if attempted recall isn't carefully done.

The defense actually did a really good job of creating doubt and the prosecutions own witnesses did a craptastic job that helped the defense more than anything.

ETA: The defense actually asked to bifurcate the trial at the beginning in an attempt to enter a "not guilty" plea, then if found guilty, determine sanity. Prosecution objected. Judge sided with prosecution

Maybe all those who don't think she was insane are split on the charge. Based on what we are learning about modern women, I'd be shocked if there weren't at least 5 of the 9 women who are fully not guilty by reason of insanity.

Well, dang I encouraged both of my boys to attend BYU Provo precisely because that is the best place for them to meet a normal girl with conservative and traditional family values and not the absurd beliefs of the day.

Tons of people believe socialism is a great idea as well...and that there are more than two genders and that biological males should be able to crush women in sports competition and then shower and change with them afterwards.

But you know what...even though I consider those people to be ignorant, and their beliefs to be absurd, I still don't put them in the same ballpark as people who seem to be genuinely crazy and deranged enough to go to bat for a f-ing psycho killer who murdered her three children in cold blood.

Yep. The judge sent them home for the day but they will be back tomorrow. Up to the jury to tell the judge again that they are deadlocked. At that time, it's over.

There are women and her supporters who think the husband did it all, that the husband was the murderer. Was the commanding voice she heard. Are asking why she wore gloves. think the husband hypnotized her into believing she did it, etc. Anything but the straightforward Occam's razor explanation that this ***** strangled the life out of her kids because she couldn't handle being a mom anymore and is now hoping an insanity defense gets her off scot-free.

The judge just challenged those considering guilty to be certain they don't have 1 iota of doubt. He's essentially telling them to go with insanity and get it over with. There's going to be public outcry no matter what

The only reasonable objection I've heard goes like this: If she had actually killed herself by throwing herself out a window, the cops would have instantly arrested him and investigated him. But since she was alive and he said that she said she did it, he was never investigated at all.

Not saying it's convincing, but it's also the exact track the defense would have taken had the judge allowed for the trial to be considered in two phases. It would have almost certainly caused enough doubt to have resulted in full acquital

Serious question, back in the early 2000's, was there a significant % of women who were sympathetic towards Andrea Yates, with many even goaltending for her or blaming the husband? Aside from there being 5 children, instead of 3, what is the difference between the two?

I was in college back then and wasn't very plugged into the case, I just remember being deeply disturbed by the notion that a seemingly normal suburban mother (of all people) could go so crazy as to methodically kill all of her children in cold blood.

Has social media and higher education just done a complete number on females? WTF gives??? Why are so many women so insane and ret@rded now? Birth control a possible factor as to why their brains are so scrambled??? Something is up, and hard to believe it is just social media, that they are THIS susceptible to brainless propaganda.

Is it possible that he is hoping that he can string this out and hope and pray that the crazy females on the jury who support Lindsay Clancy somehow magically become not crazy and ret@rded with the passage of time?

Like, "I'm going to give you several chances to rethink your astoundingly stupid, psychotic and inhumane stance, since you are females, ruled by emotion". I'm not a lawyer, sorry if that's a dumb question.

There were differences. For one, the father was not doing much, if anything, to help Andrea Yates. I do not recall hordes of women wearing pink clothes to support her.
