As someone else mentioned yesterday, it could all be cover for unconstitutional methods used to track him down...think NSA and what they can do (and who knows what tools they really have at their disposal?)...and societal concerns or implications that could arise if too much information was revealed. Who knows...our government and every organization they are affiliated with, including the US media, lie to us CONSTANTLY. No clue who or what to believe anymore. I just know they are almost always lying or meddling.
even when our intel/security state tracked down over 1,000 people who dared to take a selfie near a certain building 4 years ago, I thought it was widely known that they had subpoenaed access to GPS data from AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc., guest data from Hilton, Marriott, etc., flight data from United, Delta, AA, etc., customer data from Uber, Lyft, etc., so they could use all the data analytics for their man hunts. Assuming everyone already knows our security state could do the same, at least with cell phone data, for this guy, why try to hide their methods or stage a phony McDonald's employee method of capture?
Good points, just wondering if there could be tools that we do not know about (maybe involving AI) that they would not want broadly revealed to the masses. Who knows. Maybe it happened exactly as reported. It's just so hard to believe he could be so stupid, unless he wanted to get caught (more likely than sheer stupidity and zero street smarts imo).
agreed. I think he wanted to be caught. Not sure the veracity, but i've scrolled past a lot of stuff about but the scheduled youtube uploads, with one that said to "just wait" or something, and another one shut down and not uploaded by alphabet + the manifesto and murder weapon on his person at McD's during his man hunt... I think he wanted to be caught. He planned to be caught.

I am always amazed how good these guys are. All we had was a grainy video and they manage to track some guy eating at McDs. Amazing.
Especially when considering something like 40% of homicides in NYC are ever solved...assuming I heard that stat correctly the other day.

The McDonald's in Altoona is getting one-star reviews for their employees being rats and snitches.

I think at this point his best hope is for his defense team to somehow create the chance that he was somehow framed for this crime and that the police got the wrong guy.

I think his best hope is a plea that might let him breathe free air by the time he's 80. I think his "inscos are meanie killers" defense likely falls apart when everyone realizes he didn't actually have any legitimate personal beef and he's just an angry kid that went from academic success to a do-nothing

The NYPD homicide clearance rate for the first three quarters of 2024 is just under 45% overall.

When broken down by ethnicity, the clearance rate for White victims is upwards of 80%. So it kind of makes sense they might catch this guy based on stats alone.

There are a lot of factors that go into that clearance rate though. For starters, White victims make up around 7% of all murders in New York. Solving just a couple of murders can really boost that percentage. Also the nature of the murders can vary quite a bit. According to the NYPD, murders of other ethnicities often involve gangs or narcotics which make them harder to investigate. Finally other ethnicities may be less willing to assist in investigations because of a lack of trust or fear of retribution.

Not trying to derail the thread, I just found that info interesting.

Does he have a lawyer yet? This morning the news said he did not. Reason I ask that is he can waive objections to extradition but judge would normally want the defendant to have counsel before they waived it.

I don't think there's anyway this guy pleas out. I think he wants the public to hear his story and he wants to expose the health insurance industry and in particular UHC.

Now I could see the prosecutor making a claim that he's not mentally fit for a trial.

That's of course if he's not Epsteined before it even gets that far.

You'd think they would find him a public defender for the extradition hearing, if anything just to hurry the process along. The Altoona police don't want him, and he is never going to be tried on the PA gun possession charges. That was just an excuse to hold him.

WAG: he was smart enough to ditch a known cell phone and logged into an account using a VPN on an unknown device. They tracked him through the VPN, sent in a plain clothes agent, snapped that picture to ID, then cooked up the "employee recognized" story so they won't have to answer to their methods in a court case.

In the era of internet fame why would anyone snap a picture and NOT stick around to film the take down? Have I missed this video replete with annoying teenager / twitch commentary?

Even if that does happen, he's already done more to get both sides on the political aisle to focus their frustrations on an industry they both hate, Big Insurance, than anything that's been done before. Right not in social media you've got users who spend their days flaming each other actually giving each other likes and reposts. That's something.

And, yes, no one should be killed, or have to die, for this to come about, but if ever there was a silver lining, it's both sides coming together.

If only this level of energy (online unity) could have been matched when these CEO's were bending the knee to the government and threatening to fire good honest loyal employees who simply wanted to make their own medical decisions...essentially punishing their families, during already difficult and uncertain times.

That's pretty much what got me to despise virtually all CEO's and major corporations.

All he wants to do is talk directly to the public. He set off multiple videos from accounts that were meant to be aired after he was arrested but YT already identified some of the accounts and took them down before they could.

And authorities/machine are going to do everything in their power to limit the words he's allowed to speak directly to the public.

He's got an attorney now.

At one point, Mangione's lawyer began telling the judge that his client may have been wearing a medical mask when he was arrested because of fears of Covid-19. Mangione, sitting near his lawyer, began to say "I bought the mask " and was quickly interrupted by his lawyer, who shushed him and said "No, no. Don't say a word."

Mangione's lawyer also asked the judge to set bail, which the judge refused to do. Mangione will continue to be held at a Pennsylvania prison as his extradition proceedings continue.
