How the hell did the shooter just get away?

I guess no one realized what was going on quick enough?

He had a silencer.

Cameras have him jumping on one of those rental bikes (I think?) and they can spot him through some point in Central Park.

Don't you have to use a credit card to rent one of those bikes?

That hotel is in super popular spot in Manhattan, lots of conferences there. No chance hundreds of cameras didn't get the shooter from multiple angles. The grainy camera screencaps are garbage. You can bet super high res images exist.

Maybe he was terminally ill and he set it up the hit so that his family could claim insurance.

Or, maybe he has a second family in Utah so he hired someone to shoot him but he meant to get away and kill them and use the hitman's corpse to fake his own death.

No clue. Someone I heard on Fox called it an "e bike". I just assumed that was a rental.

I also recently rewatched Fletch, and it still holds up! And Fletch 2 is better than I remembered.

Now, maybe. We have antifa and the likes.

I guess statistically... you're likely to piss a lot of people off with any big business.

More surprised there isn't a bigger security force around these guys/women at the top of corporations

I worked for UHG for years.. well over a decade. Evil in the name of profit is what it is. Vertical integration across all health industries means monopoly. They might have different names for various portions of the work but their #1 goal has always been becoming the only game in town as we move towards universal healthcare.

  • Insurance
  • doctors practices
  • revenue cycle management (billing)
  • hospital chains
  • pharmacies
  • lab companies
  • surgery centers
  • diagnostic systems tools etc
  • managed care
  • prescription plans.. optumRX
  • banks (Optum Bank....)

They literally own the entire market and bill and pay themselves.. Guess who gets screwed on insurance plans when the Insurance company owns the docs, the policy, and the billing?

No, it doesn't surprise me at all that someone targeted him. The only thing that surprises me is that our federal government hasn't stopped the vertical integration of healthcare.

Interesting. We've had UHC for years and never once went to a UHC health care provider, unless Mount Sinai, Presbyterian/Columbia or NYU networks are really owned by UHC. That includes numerous surgeries and hospital stays over the years.

It's called a SUPPRESSOR.

actually, it's also called a silencer.

Quote:

A silencer, also known as a sound suppressor, suppressor, or sound moderator, is a muzzle device that suppresses the blast created when a gun (firearm or airgun) is discharged, thereby reducing the acoustic intensity of the muzzle report (sound of a gunshot) and jump, by modulating the speed and pressure of the propellant gas released from the muzzle. Like other muzzle devices, a silencer can be a detachable accessory mounted to the muzzle, or an integral part of the barrel.

Suppressor may refer to:

Suppressor (firearms), an American neologism for a silencer

Imagine ruining your life and your family's life just to kill a CEO. That's really sticking it to the man. Only for the company to put a new CEO in its place, who might just be worse than the previous CEO.

Now you are in jail for murder and the CEOs wife can now sue your family for damages. Not that CEOs wife will ever see any money? The fact that your family's life is now ruined

Hope those three day old sandwiches, you'll be eating while sitting in jail was worth it.

High level? Nah. He only partially worked his malfunction, Tap. Rack. Don't just keep trying to rack. All that showed was that the shooter had familiarity with his weapon platform, which could be gained from time at the range, or any number of private instruction classes.

Agree. That does appear to be a designed hit. Waited until he walked past him, shot him in the back.

Not sure about high level military training. Could just be a decent amount of range time or experience with guns and above avg IQ.

Clearly not proficient with the weapon. Amateur hour. Won't say he got lucky though. Hard to miss a '10 shot in the back to a dude gingerly walking away. You can see the shooter struggle to operate the piece.

I'd also add that you can tell he didn't have a round in the chamber to start with since he still had to rack it before the first shot. That's typically going to be someone that doesn't feel comfortable enough with their weapon system to carry it condition 1 (loaded, round in chamber, safety on).

What if he felt like his life was already ruined? We don't know his story. Not saying anything could possibly justify this...but let's say he lost someone very special to him, and felt like it was largely because their insurer F'd them over, putting ht eblood on their hands. Just saying, I could follow the logic, especially if it is someone who is not mentally stable to begin with.

Well Ken Lay died shortly after. But Jeff Skilling and Andy Fastow certainly wouldn't have garnered much sympathy outside of the strict letter of the law.

If someone who doesn't know much about guns so bought a ****ty weapon, ****ty ammo, maintained either poorly, or some combo thereof and was therefore experienced with jams. I'm guessing he had enough sense to practice and realize he'd need multiple shots to be sure but his gun typically jammed so he got good at halfway figuring it out.
