They have over 100k doctor employees directly under them. That doesn't include the M&A provider groups that they've acquired but haven't been transitioned over, renamed, or consolidated under a different business wing like Optum. To really know, you'd have to work way high up in their business side.

I'll never forget entire groups and hospitals getting gobbled up. Lots of the old docs would retire, and the young docs would give in due to the overhead of running their own practice or business vs just being an employee of UHG. It was always sad to see them eventually face working for "the man" rules when they wanted vacations or pay....

I have a good friend who is in construction and recently finished an office building for a large hospital system. The amount of security (like bulletproof office walls) put into the executive floor was pretty astounding to me.

Huge caveat to everything due to lack of information regarding motive, but I would not be surprised at all if this is a retribution for a denied medicine or procedure. I see that nearly every day I'm at work, sometimes even when it comes to life and death situations. People freaked out 10 years ago about government run "death panels", but we have the same thing now only run by greedy insurance companies. There's a breaking point to everything, including letting people suffer and die to drive profit margins.*

*The CEO of United Healthcare makes over $20 million per year and gets 10%+ annual raises. Stock value of United Healthcare is up over 600% in the last 10 years. All of that comes from collecting premiums and not paying for medical care.

Bingo. I've had medical coverage denied when I was told it was approved. Hard for me to give a damn about the CEO. Uh…. Sucks I guess.

The last one was an expensive procedure denial. I Ended up settling the bill by going to each provider and telling them I have a finite amount of money and they can be paid something now or nothing at all. Settled it for 5 times less than the initial
Bill when it was all said and done. I made each provider adjust the invoice and send me a paid in full bill. Amazing how 20,000 dollar doctor bill goes to $500 when they understand how they won't get anything at all as the secondary option.

Imagine ruining your life and your family's life just to kill a CEO. That's really sticking it to the man. Only for the company to put a new CEO in its place, who might just be worse than the previous CEO.

Now you are in jail for murder and the CEOs wife can now sue your family for damages. Not that CEOs wife will ever see any money? The fact that your family's life is now ruined

Hope those three day old sandwiches, you'll be eating while sitting in jail was worth it.
I get what you're saying.... BUT
There's plenty we don't know. What was this guys story? Put on the shoes of someone that has (for right or for wrong) come to the conclusion that they have nothing left to live for. It's entirely possible that for whatever reason this person now has no family or has come to believe that if he is out of the picture they will be better off.

Yeah, I agree. He fully expected it not to cycle. Probably using subsonic ammo to make the suppression more effective.

Isn't it likely the case that insurance only pays a percentage of the bill. So doctors put up these sky high invoices so that insurance will pay them the 30% they said they would. Insurance loves this because it makes insurance look like an absolute steal.

I have a dentist that offered their own "insurance". Which begs the question if your fees are really inflated that much that it is cost effective to get the insurance (at any time of the year) then most likely the costs for non insurance didn't reflect the gross margin return goals of the business.

Healthcare cost inflation is really health insurance manipulation of the market. Big corporations love it because it forces people to work for large companies because they can get the big health insurance deals.

That's what IMO doesn't make this a pro. A pro would've likely taken her out as well. This was an amateur who was either hired or he was pissed off

The NYPD recovered three live 9 mm rounds and three discharged 9 mm shell casings at the scene, Kenny said. He added that they recovered a cellphone.

I thought it was a hit the moment I read the OP.

The killer knew the CEO would be there at that time of the morning. Unless he's been stalking him or just decided to camp out there all night hoping to be able to see when the guy arrives, he had to know he would be there at that time.

And that's not necessarily something the average Joe on the street is going to know.

Now that I've seen the video, I think it was a hit with some inside info.

Disagree. The guy knows he is on camera. He also knew she wasnt a threat. What information is that woman going to give law enforcement that the video wouldn't?

Also it isn't like some rando is going to know the CEOs schedule.

The shooter could have been shooting subsonic rounds which would lead to not cycling reliably. Also, could have been intended outcome to not have any stray brass as well which did not work out so well for the shooter.

Weird case. Dude was cool and had the 'look' of someone that has done this before, especially given how he causally walked away.

But...

Then struggles with his weapon leaving 3 live 9mm rounds and some brass. You would think a pro would know his ammo and weapon and quickly police the brass. Yet the dude was coldly ruthless.

Like I said odd.

Seems like a large swath of the Reddit leftists are essentially either celebrating or indifferent about this assassination and even seemingly saying billionaires and CEOs of large companies deserve it.

I don't like UHC much at all....... and can also clearly state that MURDER is ALWAYS EVIL and ALWAYS WRONG. Regardless of whether or not I agree with someone's politics or employer's policies.

Why is the far left incapable of understanding this principle?

That's pistol similar to a hush puppy with a slide lock device. Makes almost no noise with the slide now allowed to cycle. Hence the reason for the movement to fire another shot. SEALs in Vietnam used them all the time

Scenario:

I pay my premium for myself and my 6yo son. I never miss a payment and go to in network providers, etc, etc. My son gets diagnosed with something normally covered and, because reasons, he gets denied care and dies.

Those 3 day old sandwiches will taste just fine while I reminisce about how the scum sucking CEO is 6 fee under.
Or a second scenario:

You pay your premiums and you never miss a payment, go to in network providers, etc. You're diagnosed with a terminal illness and there is a new treatment that is showing promise that is curing and/or extending the life of those with the treatment, but because of reasons, your insurance provider denies it and you just had your last Thanksgiving.

Those 3 day old sandwiches will taste just fine for the months you have left while you laugh about that scum sucking CEO beating you to the dirt.

A man with a grudge who knows his life is ending soon and has nothing to lose is very dangerous. I'm honestly shocked it hasn't happened before.

It's just crazy how everyone is celebrating a CEOs death. When nothing is going to change. UHC isn't going to wake up tomorrow and go, "Hey... we need to stop screwing people over" . If anything they will put someone else in place who just might be worse at screwing people over.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

Scenario is still immoral response to a questionably immoral situation. The CEO does not have %100 knowledge and understanding of every single denial or insurance dispute.

I was rejected for a treatment for my severe illness by Aetna. I did not ever think of murder. Not even once.

Is there any way this could be a mob hit as well?

Is there mob/mafia influence at that scale with the large companies like UHC?

It is New York, and there is a long, long history there of this type of thing.

FYI...I'm not celebrating his death. But knowing what his company and his competitor's companies do makes me not care. There is a difference.

We will find out the why, and I do hope it is the reason many of us are thinking it is so hopefully they'll take a pause and look at their business practices and make a change.
