Don't forget that the people perpetuating this insanity are use to stepping out of their showers and on to heated floors.

Gonna be interesting. Heads may roll before its all over.

Amazing stupidity. On one hand, Euro governments are bailing out energy companies. On the other hand, they are now pushing for a windfall profit tax against those same companies.

How much more ridiculous is this going to get? We are about to find out. Just hope Biden stays out of it and doesn't try to mimic these morons. Wishful thinking, I'm sure!

It's going to be worse than most think, but not as bad as you think. Zero hedge is Russian propaganda. Be careful about fully believing everything you read. Resolution is one flip switch compromise away.
ZeroHedge has been writing perma-bear headlines since 2008. They aren't Russian, they usually link to the stories from Reuters, AP etc., They just provide a very cynical view to the news.

As far as the bad as I think goes, you are forgetting the food issue. Bad weather, little to no fertilizer and high fuel cost hammered this years crop AROUND THE GLOBE. There is still food to go around (we won't ALL starve but many will) BUT the prices are going to get squeezed much higher once physical delivery contracts come due. 3x and 5x increases to food prices (on top of fuel and energy prices) around the world is going to cause massive unrest.

Today, we are looking down the barrel of a loaded handgun held by a monkey who's jacked up on meth.

Yes, compromise in Ukraine would go a LONG way to curbing the issues but we would still have massive inflation and supply chain issues for years. Beyond that Putin knew the day they crossed the border that this all ends in World War. He and China are choking out the West right now using our financial weaknesses against us (Trillions upon trillions of debt that is backed only by confidence of the people).

Harvest information will start to come in. Cou tries that have to import the bulk of their calories are going to get hammered. World at War will be very different if it's all internal breakdowns, or neighbors attacking neighbors for resources.

Bigger fears are industry shutting down because they have to stop or reduce production based on limited fuel inputs, resulting in lower employment while costs are rising.

How much will bleed to the US is unknown. It will happen and I do not think our current leaders are willing or able to make tough decisions.

Putin is not nearly as smart as you think. He thought Ukraine would be a walkover and that the rest of Europe would not do anything to stop him. Having badly miscalculated, he keeps raising the stakes, hoping to snatch some kind of victory from the jaws of a humiliating defeat that exposed the Russian military as a second (or third) rate power.

I obviously know about Zero Hedge, but I think you know that. Look man, I'm a perma-bear too, but even I recognize that there are limits to it.

Some of these issues or at least the most acute phase of these issues are temporary. A bad year of crops and high energy prices when a supplier wants to play games are temporary. Do I think there will be some bad times over the next 6 months? Yes. Do I think we're going to have the EU collapse? No. Part of me wonders if some of you all actually want that and are actively rooting for it. While you may not like how liberal they are, it is far better that they are liberal than Russia or China controlled.

There is also no hard guarantee that invading Ukraine results in WW3. Putin gets older by the second and can't rule forever. The most plausible scenario is that the Chinese try to take Taiwan, but I think people forget that the Chinese are more patient and will choose to apply glacier style pressure. Just like they did with Hong Kong. China could try to take on Russia after seeing how weak they are, but what would they get from that? You can't really occupy a country like that and enforce your way of life. I'd argue that the NATO countries and China are the only ones capable of waging an all out ground war in other country and I don't think either side wants a world war. The world is just a lot different than it was 85 years ago.

While true, he could still stumble into greatly degrading Europe and effectively deal a killing blow solely through energy policy.

Controlling European energy is what this is all about. It's no coincidence that he attacked right after huge reserves of OLNG were discovered in Eastern Ukraine that could undercut their own sales. Seizing eastern Ukraine ends that threat and gives them back the Soviet era pipelines that terminated there

It is better to think an opponent is intelligent rather than a lucky fool. The latter is often just a comforting thought for a fool. Im not pro-Russia but I am willing to acknowledge a strategic victory when I see it.

The problem is that in doing so, he finally persuaded the Europeans that relying upon Russian gas was a strategic error. It might take them a few years to do it, but they will eventually wean themselves off of Russian supplies and use other sources instead. So all the European pipeline structure will end up being useless. Putin essentially gave his best customers a reason to look elsewhere. Long term, this invasion is going to be a loss for Putin.

This isn't cultural genocide, it's actual genocide of the British people. Go look at the decline in population of the ethnic British and then tell me it's not an actual genocide.

One problem with their desperation/shift to coal etc., is that things like coal are a global commodity, and not too hard to ship across the Atlantic, so this green-energy-ramifications contagion in prices is going to become more and more our problem as well...

We really shouldn't be underestimating a man who has managed to stay in power for decades and is currently destroying the West.

Don't take my word for it.....Look at what the Italian party leader who's likely to win PM later this month said below.

Quote:

European solidarity continues cracking amid growing protests in different corners of the EU, with citizens angry at the collective policy of "standing up to Russia" in support of Ukraine at all costs. For example, Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock days ago openly expressed that she's committed to support Ukraine "no matter what German voters think."

But elsewhere, Italy's League party leader Matteo Salvini, (which the mainstream media consistently dubs as "far-right wing" - though he would describe his party as the government of "good sense") on Sunday broke ranks with other European leaders who have lately seemed to echo some form of this 'Ukraine first' policy.

On Sunday Salvini urged an end to Russia energy sanctions which are only leaving Europeans "on their knees" due to higher energy bills and lack of supply. "Several months have passed and people are paying two, three, even four times more for their bills," he said in an interview RTL radio. "And after seven months, the war continues and Russian Federation coffers are filling with money."

He explained that not only are the sanctions not working, but they hit Italy harder. While saying he stands in solidarity with Ukraine, he's not willing to stick with something obviously counterproductive where the blowback is felt more in Europe, Italy in particular with its soaring energy import prices, and not the intended target of the Putin government.

This was the same message he issued to a gathering of Italy's political leaders on Lake Como, where he stressed that Russia's export surplus of $140 billion is the direct result of these backfired sanctions.

"Do we have to defend Ukraine? Yes," Salvini said. "But I would not want the sanctions to harm those who impose them more than those who are hit by them." Politico meanwhile noted his coalition is expected to win big in late September national elections:

Putin has the west backed into a corner and is beating the **** out of it.

The Chinese and Indians are fully on board with Putin. The Saudis are moving east with their actions and words. It's a new world. Our corrupt leaders better wake up before it's too late. But lets be honest, thats not going to happen, they are going to double down on stupidity.

This clip would be funny if it was satire. Sadly, it's reality for many in the EU today.
