Is only going to get worst.

The expression "Failure is not an option" isn't at all true. Here's Germany actively choosing failure for it's citizens. Guess that starving in the dark is better than living in a world that is (theoretically) a degree or two warmer than it was 200 years ago?

Elections don't matter when the voters are bumbling morons.

For evidence....Trump v Biden, Abbott v Beto, Trump v Clinton...etc.

Seems like we aren't getting the whole story on this.

If you know people in Europe, ask them what they see day-to-day and post it here.

What in the ever loving ****.

The US should not send any more calories to Europe than prior. This weird NIMBY with the expectations of simply buying their caloric shortfall from the US.

Same with NG. If they're not building their own supply, local supply shouldn't be sent. I just filled 2 propane tanks for $3.77.
What we really should be doing is taking advantage of their short-sightedness and ignorance and, after increasing our own production to surpass our needs, supply them with what they want and charge the **** out of them. Our farmers win, our O&G wins, etc.

The good sign was a German faction attempting to restore their monarchy. All the worlds problems are caused by the present stock of ruling politicians and press in the West. Change the stock and things may improve and correct.

Pretty wild we are back to a point where a monarchy is the better option. I would absolutely support one if I lived over there.

The issues in meat supply are due to Berlin insisting on reducing the numbers of livestock by 50% to reduce global warming emissions. Experts are warning this policy will result in mass shutdown of meat-producing companies, and that will produce a 40% rise in the price of meat.

Analysts also warn that the reduction in meat production will also reduce the supply of natural fertilizer, which will cause follow-on shortages in vegetable yields, and concomitant rises in the cost of producing and supplying vegetables, due to the high costs of artificial fertilizers, which are dependent on natural gas as a feedstock for the production of the ammonia which is converted into urea. Both situations will worsen an already untenable food crisis and inflation-driven cost of living crisis in Germany.
Exactly what were they expecting to eat if they did this ? ??

Was in Germany today, other than my favorite Doner place being 50% more expensive, I didn't see much. The Christmas Market gang was out in full force. Plenty of heat and hot water at the hotel, however the heat was turned way down when I initially got to my room. Heated up just fine.

Early in the winter, but so far but I noticed little out of the ordinary.

There will be a monarchy in America one day.

It's just a matter of which one comes first -- a monarchy under a man/woman OR a monarchy under Jesus Christ.

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/germanys-half-a-trillion-dollar-energy-bazooka-may-not-be-enough-2022-12-15/

440B thus far on energy. Or 12% national economic output.

"Germany's energy import bill will grow by a combined 124 billion euros this year and next, up from growth of 7 billion for 2020 and 2021, according to data provided by the Kiel Institute, presenting a major challenge for the country's energy-intense industries.

The country's chemicals sector, the most exposed to rising power costs, expects production to fall by 8.5% in 2022, according to industry association VCI, which warns of "huge structural breaks in Germany's industrial landscape"."

"Germany imported around 58 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas from the country last year, according to data from Eurostat and German industry association BDEW, representing about 17% of its total energy consumption.

Germany wants renewables to account for at least 80% of electricity production by 2030, up from 42% in 2021. At recent rates of expansion, though, that remains a remote goal.

Germany installed just 5.6 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity and 1.7 GW of onshore wind capacity in 2021, the latest year on record.

To achieve the 80% goal, new onshore wind installations need to increase around six-fold to 10 GW annually, according to an October report by the federal government and Germany's states. Solar installations must quadruple every year to 22 GW, it said."

They have zero LNG infrastructure.

"For the time being, it plans to rely on six floating import terminals to help diversify gas supply, the first of which is due to arrive on Thursday. Three are meant to come online this winter, with the rest to be deployed at the end of 2023, bringing total capacity to at least 29.5 bcm a year.

RWE, Uniper and smaller peer EnBW (EBKG.DE) have pledged to come up with the volumes to make sure the terminals run at full capacity until the end of March 2024. Nonetheless, it remains unclear where the volumes will come from.:

Germanys economy will decline the most in the very short future. Their chemical industry is permanently downsizing. Which makes sense, you're not going to build chemicals from wind and solar.

LNG terminals can support 29.5bcm, down from the 58bcm they were importing from Russia. And the renewable energy will not be made immediately available to make up the GW gap in demand vs supply, that will take years to build and hook to the grid, which is t even dealing with seasonal weather and radiant issues that there is no getting around.

As Germany goes...so does Europe.

That's the problem, they can't source enough and that's secondary to the issue of not having LNG infrastructure.

I have a friend who was just in the UK for work, didn't know that until he sent me some pics og beer halls in Prague. Spotty communication but I asked what he saw people were experiencing or saying.

His only real reply was that a ton of breweries were about to go under due to cost of fuel. I'll hit him up more when he's back.

Has been posted before but the actual footprint of spent fuel is really small. And that's with the older tech. I'm guessing the newer tech is even less impactful.

Well, tragic loss of 1,500 tropical fish living in the lobby of a Berlin hotel due to freezing temperatures.

I would think maybe energy restrictions led them to keeping the lobby colder or simply not conditioned which led to the glass shifting, cracking.

What was the temp in the lobby??? Couldn't be less than 60F right. It's a hotel, no way they recommend the guests keep their coats on inside. What are tropical fish tanks kept at 80to90F?

Could a 30 degree gradient cause a crack in the acrylic tank?

I guess it's possible but seems very unlikely.
