One question I have is since this island was the research facility for the OG JP, has this animal been in stasis for the last 30 years? How has it survived in a tank without food for that long?

My guess is it breaks out of the tank in that scene, then we cut to 35 years later or however long it's been, meet ScarJo & co, they arrive on the island, and we eventually find out it's survived just like all the other dinosaurs have, by eating whatever else is out there (including each other).

Does that mean some of this movie will be a period piece set in the 70s or 80s ramping up to the park opening in 1993?

I'm with TCTTS but I bet the whole sequence happens fairly quick. Almost like the raptor opener in the original.

Exactly. It's almost assuredly a quick cold open action beat, with a wink and a nod to the original, then were off and running into modern day.

Looks terrifying in the most awesome way. I hope instead of the scene with it being explained that missing DNA is spliced with frog DNA that a more obscure creature was used.

Absolutely hated this trailer.

Understood why Chris Pratt took the job.

ScarJo should be bigger than this mess.

Wait sooooo there's an unknown research facility that we are finding out about years later?! Didn't this happen like 5-6 movies ago?

You see, there was one island where the park was, a different island where the clones were, and now a 3rd island where all of the original labs were done (because they weren't done in all of the other labs we saw) and THAT's where the baddest of the bad dinos that couldn't be transferred to the original 2 islands were kept.

Makes total sense.

All things considered, it's not that crazy that this would be the situation/protocol, and that InGen would want each of these three phases to be conducted on their own, separate islands...

Isla Nublar
- InGen's official tourist destination
- Setting of Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, and the first half of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Isla Sorna
- aka "Site B"
- InGen's "factory floor," where the dinosaurs were bred and nursed before being shipped to Isla Nublar
- setting of The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III

Isla ???
- aka 'Site C"
- InGen's genetic R&D arm, where the dinosaur experiments where first conducted
- setting of Jurassic World Rebirth

Not to mention, we've known since the '90s that Nublar and Sorna were part of "The Five Deaths" Muertes Archipelago island chain. To that end, the Rebirth island is almost assuredly one of the other three.

Here's the thing.

We knew about Nublar and Sonar.

We also knew they were conducting R&D at those sites, bc we were shown it like 50 times. So that there was somewhere ELSE that they were also doing R&D, and literally nobody involved in all of these escapades figured it out for 30 years is just an absurd suspension of disbelief.

And I get it, it's a movie about creating dinosaurs. Ain't like we shouldn't have been suspending disbelief since 1994.

But they're pushing it.

I agree with the criticisms posted and I also don't buy Scarlett as this badass mercenary type, especially in the shot where she looks like she is 5' tall next to the guy.
Still more believable than the bald dude from Evening Shade in JP3

Sorna wasn't part of the original canon. We had no idea Sorna was a thing until Crichton's follow-up book dropped two years after the first movie, in 1995. And it was just as much of stretch then to essentially be like, "Guess what? There was a second island!"

We also knew they were conducting R&D at those sites, bc we were shown it like 50 times.

The lab we saw in Jurassic Park was literally part of the theme park ride. That's not to say it wasn't functional, or that labs weren't also needed on Nublar and Sorna. But ultimately it would make sense that InGen wouldn't want to do the initial, major experimenting on the same islands where the eventual park and factory floor would be.

So that there was somewhere ELSE that they were also doing R&D, and literally nobody involved in all of these escapades figured it out for 30 years is just an absurd suspension of disbelief.

Who said no one else figured it out for 30 years? That's a conclusion you're jumping to with zero indication of that conclusion being true. Go back and watch the trailer. There's not a single line of dialogue indicating that the island is/was top secret. There's a difference between us, the audience, not being aware of its existence until now, and the characters in-world not being aware of its existence. In no way does the trailer confirm the latter, nor is the island's existence presented as something that the major players didn't already know about. Mahershala Ali's dialogue confirms as much, seeing as he directly speaks of the island being patrolled, people knowing not to go near it, etc.

And I get it, it's a movie about creating dinosaurs. Ain't like we shouldn't have been suspending disbelief since 1994.

But they're pushing it.

It's all fun and games at this point. But know that we've had multiple Dino "experts"/"mercenaries" whatever else you want to call them to deal with these catastrophic situations, nobody thought to check the island one over? Archipelagos ain't that big. That's why they're archipelagos.

Dumb dino movie, I've been suspending since I was 9.

But I think this one's gonna tank- ScarJo didn't move the needle.

Again, why are you insisting that no one else knew about the third island, when no one in the trailer is saying as much?

I'll bet you a hundred dollars it's one of the top five grossing movies of the year.

Domestic? Or Global?

I'll take you up on the former for sure.

Either one, I don't care.

But it'll be top five in both.

Bet not top 5 domestic. You know how to find me, and I'm good for it.

(And to be clear- we're taking the December releases' total domestic gross into account- not what they earned just in December.)

I agree with you that it all feels like a stretch, but just remember, this is based off of a pair of books that kills Ian Malcolm in the first book only to declare he is alive again in the second book because science.

This is not an IP that cares about logical continuity.
Thanks and gig'em

Haha, I'm aware. Read JP and LW in 6th grade (which are not books designed for 6th graders. Then went on a Crichton tear.)

Loved #4 Jurassic World, even though that is not in the IP, and doesn't make sense at all. But was quite a good movie at the right time. Hated #5 and #6.

You hated the last two JW movies. Yep, so did most everyone else.

But I'll give you this - I loved Batman '89. I was enjoying Batman Returns sufficiently until the penguins waddled onto the screen and started launching back-mounted rockets. Peace out from then on. The third and fourth movies sucked ass so hard, especially the fourth, that when Chris Nolan comes along years later with Batman Begins, I resisted going. I expected more suckage. And then I gave in and went on literally the last night the movie was showing in my area, and came home blown away.

Maybe Jurassic World Rebirth does something similar.
