Wow that's article is awesome and one reason I loved the Beltran signing from day 1.

Things like this

Quote:

"Put my locker next to young guys who I can help," I said. "Get me around the kids the players who I can have an impact on. In spring training, during drills, whenever you can. Give me the opportunity to help all the young players get better."

He promised me he'd do that, and I couldn't be happier about it.

And this

Quote:

I feel like he'll be even more excited if I can hit a bunch of bombs this year and help get Houston back to the World Series. I know full well that, more than anything else, this team will be relying on me to produce. At the end of the day, it's all about winning baseball games and doing everything I can on the diamond to help bring Astros fans their first world championship.

Alright I guess I can stop booing Carlos now. Anyone who thinks that highly of Bidge can't be that bad.
It's a good thing Biggio is already in the HOF as I can't imagine how many voters would drop him for this suspicious comment:

This guy's an animal. This is unreal. Where does he get all that energy?

At first the three of us were just sitting at the table making small talk, but then, all of a sudden, Jos turns to me with this really serious look and starts talking baseball. It was like he couldn't take it anymore. He had something he needed to bring up.
"Carlos," he said, "I need to get better."
At first, I just kind of looked at him.
I mean, this is a guy who has been one of the most consistent players in the big leagues pretty much from the day he got called up. Last year he hit .338.
That's awesome.

If they're wanting more than that then they can F themselves and keep him.

Seems like a good package for an Ehh pitcher overall. Had a pretty good year this year but overall nothing special in my opinion

When I think I Quintana, I think Wandy Rodriguez

We should not be giving up that type of package for Wandy

He's 27 (about to be 28) so he's still in the prime of his career and should be for another 4-5 years.

He's been in the show for 5 years. His ERA each year has been 3.76, 3.51, 3.32, 3.36, and 3.20. So his worst year is 3.76 as a rookie and he's still getting better each year.

Is he elite? No, but I bet you can't name 15 better starters than him.

Plus he's cheap and under contract for 4 more years.

Wandy's career WAR is 13.1 over 11 years. Quintana's WAR is 20.8 over 5 years.

Just one point of reference...

That's like saying when you think Correa, I think Julio Lugo. Sure they both play SS but that's about where the comparison ends.

If our starts pitch like they did last year, Quintana would easily be a #1 or #2.

If Keuchel can get close to what he's normally at, and McCullers isn't hurt all season, then Quintana is a #3, pushing McCullers for #2.

I don't like the price. But I would Absolutely do this trade. This team is close. A guy who is absolutely an ace.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't think this is that bad of a deal considering where the astros are at this point in time. Unless Martes will be able to pitch for the steps this season, a trade for Quintana, who will be with the team for a while due to his contract, would be a great move. I'd try to talk the sox down a little, but I don't think this trade is outrageous like most people here seem to think

Its not a fair trade unless it hurts on both sides. This one hurts, but it could be the piece that puts us over the top in the AL West and gives us so much more hope come playoff time.

IDK about yall, but I love our core and I think the pieces we added will elevate our offense to top 3 in the bigs. Now the staff has potential if Dallas bounces back and Lance stays healthy, but if not. Then I think we're in for a year slightly better than 2016 and not a huge shot at making a WS run unless something crazy happens. We add Quintana then even if Lance and Dallas are in their 2016 form we should still win the AL West and then not be dead on arrival in the postseason.

The issue from the White Sox's side is that they've already acquired five pitchers in the two trades they've made. Do they really want to add seven pitching prospects this offseason? They likely have their sites set on Bregman still, so I seriously doubt a deal gets done.

And to be honest, three top five prospects for a that's really a number two starter is a hefty price.

I would certainly do it and the Astros would too since the tweet said that was what was offered.

It just baffles me that the White Sox turned that down. That seems like a fair return for both sides. Pretty close to win-win in my eyes. But again it seems like the White Sox wanna bend someone over.

Unless keuchel bonces back big... He would be our ace.

We're splitting hairs here. He's a top 25 pitcher hands down, probably 15-20 range. 2015 Dallas is better. 2016 Dallas is worse. I would say full season Lance might be the best of them all. Its not crazy to say he'd be our ace.

The White Sox might also be betting that someone's ace is going to go down during the season before he does. Being that they are rebuilding, they can give him extra rest to help mitigate his risk of injury.

Also, several teams number 1s would be number 2s when Sale is on your team.
