Nolan Fontana claimed by the Angles. Nothing wrong with letting him walk.
I remember when he was a top 5 prospect.

Can't believe someone is paying Jason Castro 8M per year to play baseball.
Have fun with that.

Josh Reddick .
You think this is because we are trying to get Sale with a Springer trade?
If we sign a 1B and move Gurriel or Bregman to LF then we'd be in a similar position to where we were before the Reddick signing. I am not advocating for it, but it wouldn't be too bad.Mr.Bond said:Texaggie7nine said:

That's would create a giant hole in the outfield
He's 28 with 4 more years of arb. Unless you have a 5 year rebuild plan then he's a nice piece for the next few years, irish pete ag06 said:

Who's to say we would have taken him? We probably would have still tried to draft Mark AppelW said:

#5 overall Buster Posey
#10 overall Jason Castro

Sure if he's good.Obvious George Springer isn't a one man rebuild. He's just one piece of many that would go into it. Just like he would only be one piece of the trade for Sale.irish pete ag06 said:aggie1906 said:He's 28 with 4 more years of arb. I agree, but if you're rebuilding why in the hell would you want a 28 year old hitting arbitration?

Castro was a consensus first rounder and many scouts saw him as a top 20 pick that year. Hingsight is 20/20, but we needed a catcher in the worst way and until the end of 2014, Castro still had upside and his defense was good enough that we were willing to wait to see if his offense bounced back. We went and got Stassi who was a decent prospect but clearly did not pan out.
Catcher is the hardest position to project and the biggest crap shoot when drafting.
Remember Zunino? He was a "future star" who turned into a mediocre at best catcher.
Castro was awful the last couple of years, but he was a big part of the rebuild and a good presence in the locker room. I appreciate his contribution and hope he does well in the future.

That would be a trade that would demand the same as Sale. Martes, Musgrove, Reed, Tucker, and more.
He is scheduled to make 34-35 million through 2021
