Nolan Fontana claimed by the Angles. Nothing wrong with letting him walk.

I remember when he was a top 5 prospect.

Can't believe someone is paying Jason Castro 8M per year to play baseball.

Have fun with that.

Apparently never. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I typed that. I thought for a second he was a top prospect right after he was drafted then it was all down hil from there...

Think he was as high as #8.

Josh Reddick .

You think this is because we are trying to get Sale with a Springer trade?

Andrew Cashner is a ranger, I remember taking one off the ribcage from him when we were 13, he was throwing over 80. Thought I died

That's would create a giant hole in the outfield

If we sign a 1B and move Gurriel or Bregman to LF then we'd be in a similar position to where we were before the Reddick signing. I am not advocating for it, but it wouldn't be too bad.

He's 28 with 4 more years of arb. Unless you have a 5 year rebuild plan then he's a nice piece for the next few years,

I agree, but if you're rebuilding why in the hell would you want a 28 year old hitting arbitration?

Castro is the eternal example for the importance of draft order.

2008 draft:

#5 overall Buster Posey
#10 overall Jason Castro

what a difference 5 spots make

Who's to say we would have taken him? We probably would have still tried to draft Mark Appel

Sure if he's good.Obvious George Springer isn't a one man rebuild. He's just one piece of many that would go into it. Just like he would only be one piece of the trade for Sale.

I guess if I'm a GM and rebuilding, I'm not trading for a player over 24 and anywhere near arbitration.

Or the importance of not drafting shltty players so high up in the draft.

No way he should've been a first rounder, much less a top 10 pick.

Castro was a consensus first rounder and many scouts saw him as a top 20 pick that year. Hingsight is 20/20, but we needed a catcher in the worst way and until the end of 2014, Castro still had upside and his defense was good enough that we were willing to wait to see if his offense bounced back. We went and got Stassi who was a decent prospect but clearly did not pan out.

Catcher is the hardest position to project and the biggest crap shoot when drafting.

Remember Zunino? He was a "future star" who turned into a mediocre at best catcher.

Castro was awful the last couple of years, but he was a big part of the rebuild and a good presence in the locker room. I appreciate his contribution and hope he does well in the future.

Exactly...

Look at in comparison with the rest of the first round.

I'd say he wasn't a bad pick at all.

Reddick announced and introduced last night

Video and article

I'm pretty excited about Reddick. Seems like a really good fit both in the lockeroom and how he plays the game.

ESPN says Diamondbacks might be putting Greinke on the trading block, would we be interested or is he too far along age wise?

Only if AZ takes on a lot of the contract.

That would be a trade that would demand the same as Sale. Martes, Musgrove, Reed, Tucker, and more.

He is scheduled to make 34-35 million through 2021

I dont see any way the Dbacks get a prospect haul unless they eat big money. They were bidding against the Dodgers, and I don't think they can afford Greinke's contract anymore.
