So what's everyone's thoughts on this? Ends the Castro era obviously and I like seeing Gattis back there. Nice that the Yanks are kicking in some money because that would've been too much for a catcher only playing 2/3 of the season. I know it always hurts losing prospects, but I think we all realize there aren't many cant miss prospects.
I like it so far. I don't know enough about our prospects though
To me, this is like signing a proven quality LH catcher to a two-year 12 million/year deal. We traded two 20/21 yr old prospects that haven't really even proven themselves in A ball.

This is absolutely a great trade on paper. Gave up 2 nothing's and pay a little money.

We got an immediate impact veteran catcher plus 5mil for 2 prospects that didn't figure into our future in this window. There are plenty of guys that were ahead of those two prospects that will be contributing in front of them.

Anyone care to compare this trade to the Rangers/Lucroy deal?

Haven't seen anything (and really haven't looked), but I'm assuming this means he waived his no trade clause?
You have to give up talent to get talent in trades and as far as the giving up is concerned, it won't have an impact in the near future, so that's good.
Overall, I think it's a pretty good deal for both teams. The Astros got a much needed left handed bat and catcher to split time with Gattis. The Yankees got prospects for a guy that really didn't fit their plans for next year.

Rangers get better offense with Lucroy and got a reliever, too, but they gave up two top five prospects and a top 15 as the PTBNL. Lucroy is also much cheaper, but is a free agent after next season.Nuke LaLoosh said:

All things considered, the Rangers paid more for what they're getting in return, but that can be attributed to winning a bidding war at the trade deadline, versus an off-season trade where the number of trade partners for the Yankees may have been the Astros and the Astros alone.

I like this trade. I heard McCann is good with the younger ball players, but he sure does come across as an ass on tv at times.
Woah. Now Reddick is someone I definitely did not expect.
Another solid pickup. Getting some experience and left handed bats.
So for sure now we let Valbuena and Castro walk.

Reddick is a solid pick up. If we can get .265 with 20 HRs from him, I'll be pleased. He's a tough strikeout, too, which is a welcome addition to this lineup. I'd sit him on occasion versus lefties, though, as he tends to struggle.
However, against righties, we can now insert McCann, Reddick, and Aoki. In that scenario, Springer is in center. I expect we'll see that quite a bit this year.

Agreed. Good deal for both sides. Astros lose 1 of around 15 low A fire ballers. Both teams trading from a position of strength.
Looks like we will be sliding Springer into CF and Reddick into RF. Geez that lineup just got a lot damn better.
