I agree. We have to get on base at a higher clip.
For sure having an OBP under .300 is a joke.

I would be VERY happy with Wilson Ramos and Michael Saunders btw.
If we're going for a left handed bat in the OF, I'd rather have Josh Reddick, who's been a little more productive over his career. He has a good OBP and doesn't strike out a lot, either. You just have to sit him against lefties more often than not, which is fine, because we have plenty of right handed bats on the roster.

He's an upgrade as-is.

And actually putting him there may make the rotation better as well.

Who would we have to give up to get miggy?

Ecarnacion would be nice at 1B

Maybe PT there would be attractive to him.

Miggy contract is huge.

He's set to make 28 M this year then it bumps up to 30 M until 2021 then it bumps up to 32 M for 2 more years before it drops back down to 30 M in 2 mutual years that will never happen. He'll be 41 and 42 years old.

He's not 29 anymore, but he has not shown much of a decline. He will be 34 next year so at best you're getting 4 good years, probably fewer, but you're on the hook for 7 for elite pay.

I am all for it as long as it doesn't prevent us signing Altuve, Correra, or someone like that to a long term deal in a few years. I love the win now mindset.

Very much in agreement. I honestly don't think Miggy is worth that. I would rather get someone like Ramos and a starting pitcher.

I can agree if that is an ace. We really need someone to anchor our rotation is Dallas isn't 2015 Dallas and McCullers can't stay healthy. Those are too big of a question mark for me to settle for a mid to back end type signing. I think we need to go big and make a splash trade.

I would think a ton. Probably a package of Springer/Reed/Martes/Fisher gets it done. Not sure I would do anything that includes Altuve/Correa/Bregman/Springer though.

Miggy's contract is huge, but you'd have to think adding a two-time MVP and future HOFer to a team that just missed the playoffs would have a significant impact on season ticket sales and merchandise sales. Not to mention, we would immediately become a World Series contender.

Also, in the next few years, Miggy is going to reach the 500 HR and 3000 hit milestones. He could very well hit the 600 HR mark, too. Just more potential revenue streams for the club to take advantage of.

So why would Cabrera waive his no trade clause and come to Houston? For starters, Minute Maid is already a much more hitter-friendly park than Comerica, and will be even more so next year. He could also play along side his fellow countryman in Altuve.

What would we have to give up? Since Detroit is even willing to listen to offers, they are obviously eyeing a rebuild because you don't replace Miggy's production in a trade. I'm guessing we'd have to part with one or two of the following, plus others: Martes, Tucker, Paulino, Bregman, Reed. McCullers is someone I think could be included in this type of deal, too.

It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. If any of this is coming from our front office, I think it's clear what Reed's future in Houston is.

I'm beginning to think we could part ways with Springer for the right return. I also think he'll be leaving when his contract is up.

His defensive is elite but he's not too impressive at the plate. He's so incredibly streaky and if it's a big situation it's an automatic out.

Not saying shop him, but just saying in the right package I'd be ok with parting with him.

If the front office feels like they can afford it, I'm all in on Miggy. You have to think with his contract situation, Detroit just mainly wants that off the books more than they would want major return in prospects. If that's the case, and you can trade for Miggy with just farm pieces, you do that in a heart beat.

Springer is the number 1 bat I let walk after his service time is up out of the young core (Correa, Altuve, Bregman)

He looks to be the worst of the 4 and is the oldest.

I may be completely off base here, but he seems like the hitter who will age the worst out of all of those.

It all comes down to what they are asking for and if Crane and Co are willing to pay his salary, plus our young guys when it comes up. Miggy would be perfect for this team. High average and OBP, plus a lot of homers. He's very close friends with Altuve and would fit right in with our guys.... I don't see him declining like players usually do... He could very well be just like Big Papi. His skill set won't deteriorate just because of age because he doesn't rely on speed.

I agree. Miggy is the type of guy that will very likely not decline. I would think he wouldn't decline near as much as Encarnacion.

Cabrera's contract is outrageous...borderline insane.

$32 MM due in 2022 & 2023...when he's 39 & 40 years old. That's crazy.

Detroit would be thrilled to find some team to take that contract off their hands

It won't seem as outrageous when you see what guys like Cespedes and Encarnacion get and what kind of contracts get handed out over the next couple of offseasons. The money for that age has to worry you a little, but stupid money is about to be paid to a few guys.

Yep. And Miguel Cabrera is a generational bat. He's on a different level from Cespedes and Encarnacion.

Not really man. People are gonna go crazy over him and give him something like 6 years, 175 million. 94 something insane.

I might have missed it, but does someone have a breakdown of how his contract works?

Just reminding everyone that while Cabrera may be cheaper money wise he's going to cost us some significant talent.

That just depends on how much $ the Astros eat on that contract.
