I see nothing wrong with it. Its not like that was the first time he saw the contract. His agent and Cuban are buddies.

Not gonna lie, I would love to play for Mark Cuban if I was an NBA athlete

What I wonder is if Cuban went all Shark tank and gave Chandler a 24 sec shot clock to agree or else the offer is gone.

Morey thought this was his best option to keep Parsons. He didn't expect him to get such a high salary.

I don't blame him. This is a crazy contract for Parson's.

So Rockets fans, is getting Bosh but losing Parsons a win/draw/lose for us?

Depends on who we get at SF. If we can get Deng or Ariza with Bosh then I like it. If we get an average SF then I think it will be a draw in terms of what our record would be.

The difference in Parsons cap number by making him RFA is $1.9M. That's not enough to make a difference. Now morey has control, knows the price to pay, and can bring him back or let him walk. If you let Parsons become UFA next year, Morey has to offer the max next year anyway (at 5 years and around $80M) to try and keep parsons from entertaining other offers.

3 years $45M is cheaper than 5 years $80M, so from that standpoint Morey's strategy may actually be working as he planned.

If we get Bosh, I think we match. If we don't, then we'll see. They may opt for someone slightly less expensive so they can still get to Love's max next year.

This is what Feigen of the Chronicle is reporting. With Dallas not announcing the offer sheet until tonight, I think everything will work out with Lebron and Bosh deciding within the 72 hour window.

With the Lin trade with Philly teed up, we just need Lebron to decide to go to Cleveland to have a shot at making this all work.

If Bosh goes back to Miami, I think Morey let's Parsons go to Dallas.

You are out of money and options if you sign Bosh. You cannot clear room for Love without moving Harden, Bosh or Howard. No where close.

Depends what you give up to get Bosh in. If you give up Asik/Lin/Jones/Parsons I don't know that Bosh is a huge upgrade.

You can't get Deng or Ariza if you sign Bosh. You can get players for the veteran minimum and the room exception.

What would the Mavs have to offer the Rox in a S&T?

A TPE and a pick or something? I guess that allows the Rockets to use a TPE to trade for another player making $15M or less, so that kinda helps with flexibility.

- Sign Bosh
- S&T Parsons for TPE & Pick
- Send TPE & Pick for Decent Player X

Preserves the Rox ability to add another player in addition to Bosh while allowing Parsons to go to his preferred destination in Dallas, and (I think) preserving Dallas' ability to use the MLE this year.

If Houston doesn't sign Bosh (or another big name FA) then a S&T doesn't really make any sense.

I don't think Dallas would want to give Houston a trade exception for 15mm without some sort of compensation like Jones or NOLA's pick (if that deal gets done) or both.

Dallas can sign him outright. No reason to go through the trade route to help out Houston without getting assets.

And if I'm morey and don't get bosh, I let chandler go and then offer 4 years/$30M to ariza or something.

I'm only paying parsons $15M if Bosh comes to houston and then there isn't enough cap space left to get a legitimate replacement.

You weren't reading carefully enough. I said they'd opt for someone less expensive than Parsons if they don't get Bosh so they could afford Love.

Houston could also just be stalling for time by acting like they're interested in a sign and trade.

Am I the only one who thinks Parsons isn't worth anywhere near this amount? He's 7-8 million/year player. Max money for him is crazy talk for a guy who's the 3rd or 4th best player on his team.

Parsons
8-9: just right
10-11: head scratcher
12-14: wtf
15: Parsons has audio of you making racists comments

Most people don't think he is worth that. But getting rid of Parsons+Lin+Jones+Asik to get Bosh and then not having a SF and Houston has done a whole lot of work to not get any better.

They need to overpay him.
Ulrich

I could see as much as 12 from a team that really needs scoring and/or thinks that he could be a better defender on a better defensive team. Dallas already has Nowitzki and Ellis to score and if Marion doesn't come back they are going to have minus defenders everywhere but C.

Houston has Harden, Howard, and (potentially) Bosh to score and they have demonstrated that they can't achieve good defense with Parsons (or perhaps more importantly McHale).

15 is too much for either team.

One thing that was highlighted in the "rank the small forwards" thread is that there are tons of good small forwards and all the best teams have an exceptionally good small forward. Who does Dallas or Houston put on Durant, Lebron, or Leonard especially if Dallas doesn't bring back Marion?

My thought was that a S&T allows the Mav's the ability to use their MLE to sign another player, and THAT is the compensation for doing a S&T with a TPE.

Otherwise, why would the Rockets S&T Parsons AND give additional assets to the Mavs for it? Makes no sense.

Meh, I think in the offseason the "division rivals" thought is very overplayed.

I think Morey was asked if he would do a trade that would make OKC better (I think in reference to Asik to OKC) given that they were in the same conference in competition, and Morey said he would do any trade that made his team better, regardless of who else got better in the process.

That said, the S&T angle just seems like a means for Morey to delay the issue for a bit. The only way it makes any sense is if Houston wants assets and Dallas wants the ability to use the MLE on another signing. In that scenario, both would be allowing their counterpoint more flexibility.

Rockets/Mavericks are actually discussing a sign & trade deal for Parsons. The offer sheet still hasn't been signed yet. Allowing us room to go after Deng.

The offer sheet has been signed. It hasn't been turned in yet.

Unless Houston gives up on Bosh or gets a trade exception for Parsons, you have no room for Deng.

Projecting them to win 69 games, @NateSilver538 picks the Rockets as LeBron James' best choice if he wants to win. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/lebron-james-shouldnt-stay-in-miami-or-go-to-cleveland/

Deng would also have to be signed and traded by Cleveland to Houston. And I don't think that would be good for Cleveland's cap space in signing LeBron. That's assuming he hasn't already been renounced.

Signed offer sheet but not turned in? So the 3 day counter hasn't started yet?

Nope. Not until they submit it to the league and hand deliver it to Morey.
