How long do you want to ignore this user?

It's not realistic to think that Houston offered Bosh a max deal without assurances that they could get it done. More likely is that they're going to have to give up something good to whoever takes Lin.

Like our 2015 first round pick and the NOLA first round pick

Now the real question: How much Luxury Tax is Houston willing to pay?

Howard @ 21.4
Harden @ 14.7
Bosh @ 20.8
Parsons @ 15
TJones @ 1.6
DMo @ 1.5
Beverly @ .9
Canaan @ .8
Covington @ .8
Vet min @ 1
Vet min @ 1
Vet min @ 1

~80mm. Well into the tax there with Beverly needing a raise next year and Jones needing one the following year.

You're missing Nick Johnson. And I think some of those guys will be gone for us to sign Bosh.

Houston also has draft picks

Houston can't do squat until they move some guys at this point...

I offer my talents to the Rockets for the league minimum. Gonna need me to fill out the roster

So, as a Rockets fan, would you be okay with signing Bosh AND matching the offer for Parsons?

(assuming Lin, picks, etc. are moved and we are willing to pay luxury tax)

That's a lot to give up/pay wth no bench...

If we get Bosh, I think we have to match. If we don't get Bosh, then I don't know. That'd be tough.

Also I read that Parsons isn't eligible for a poison pill contract.

It's never been about affording the top three guys. If you want to throw Parsons in there, fine, but that just makes it harder to field a full roster. It's always been about 4-5 through 13.

Howard/Bosh/Harden is a fantastic top three; OKC is probably the only team who can match it. OKC also got worn down because they didn't have the depth to hang with San Antonio in a seven game series, and you're talking about paying your four best players 16 million dollars more than OKC's top four make (and about 8mm more for the top three).

To get a bench worth anything, you're basically saying "f it, I'll pay big now to make a run at it". To me, that's just too much money to have invested in 4 players.

Morey knows what he's doing. Les's wallet may not like it, but it'll work out.

Les is worth 1.2 billion and made 40 million last year. Spend the money. lets make a real run!

Like some of y'all have said, it's Les's money. I have no problem with the Rockets signing Bosh and resigning Parsons (although he's definitely not worth that kind of money - thanks, Dallas!). The bench still does need improvement, but we'd have the midlevel exception next year to try to sign someone. And Jones coming off the bench provides some depth.

Having to decide to keep him if we don't sign anyone else this offseason is going to be tough.

Cuban played it perfectly, on some Tywin Lannister ****. He's making Morey look like Rob Stark right now.

Cuban also ****ed himself. His team is now maxed out with

Chandler
Dirk
Parsons
Carter
Ellis

6-8 seed. He spent all of his money and still isn't a contender

I think Houston has to resign Parsons and get Bosh. Getting Bosh and letting Parsons walk is a mistake. If you let Parsons walk, you are still over the cap and you need more depth, but have no way to get it.

Houston will only have the smaller MLE next year - worth about 3mm. Taxpayer MLE. You don't get the full MLE if you pay taxes.
Ryan34

Plus Cuban's money is tied up for 3 days. If Houston does match, he could end up missing on Ariza and Deng too.

If we do match and get Bosh, we'd have Jones, Troy Daniels, Nick Johnson, and some vet min guys coming off the bench. Not excellent but not terrible either.

Coached by Carlisle:

Chandler/Blair
Dirk/Brandan Wright
Parsons/Jae Crowder
Carter/Ellis
Harris/Felton

Really not a bad team. I bet they could beat Houston sans Parsons coached by McHale.

Assuming none of those guys are used to get rid of Lin.

Could, but I'd take Bosh, Howard, and Harden 7/10 times.

How so?

Everybody knew the Mavs and others were going to go after Parsons. After Melo, Bosh, and LeBron, he was probably the most attractive of the remaining FAs/RFAs. If Cuban didn't offer, another team would have.

Morey took a risk by not picking up Parsons' option.
Guitarsoup
How long do you want to ignore this user?
But Cuban is overpaying him on purpose to force Houston's hand and he got it done before the signing period so Houston would be on the clock immediately to wrap up the trades to move Asik/Lin and clear cap space.

And paying 15mm for Parsons is a tough choice for Houston because he isn't worth it and Cuban knows that, but Houston also won't have the flexibility to surround Bosh/Howard/Harden with depth without retaining Parsons. So now Houston is in the Luxury tax, and I don't think Les has ever allowed them to be in the luxury tax.

Chris Bosh has decided to sign with Rockets if LeBron James leaves Heat. (via @Chris_Broussard & @WindhorstESPN) http://t.co/ytLpjL33cl

GS, I'd like to think the Mavs are more concerned with winning a championship than with specifically beating Houston. The Mavs are capping themselves at second round exit - at best - with that roster.

Eh it was more of a emotional response, but if you want to dig into the metaphor.. Robb took a risk by not marrying Frey's daughter (Morey took a risk by not picking up the option)

Taj, you're reaching.

Les has always maintained that he'll pay what it costs to win. Bosh and Parsons are worth paying the tax, especially with the Rockets being as profitable as they are. Hopefully Les keeps his word.

They were a game away from beating the NBA champions last year and have upgraded their roster.
