Is Bosh basically a cheaper Melo. I think as long as we ditch Lin and a couple of the non guaranteed then we can sign him and keep Parson.

For 24 million dollars a year, he's not a cheaper anything. That would make him the highest paid player in the league.

How much space would that leave to fill out other spots? If Lin and Asik are both gone that leaves some depth spots that need to be filled. I still would like a better starting PG than Beverly however I think the only hope of that is for one of the young guys to step up.

Its not 24 a year. It starts at 20.7 is what I read.

copy/pasting myself from another thread... I don't keep up with the Rockets beyond what I read here, but:
quote:
24 million a year for Bosh? 15 would be a nice deal, but I'm not sure I would go higher than 18. 24 would make him the highest paid player in the league.

24 + 22 + 15 = 61 million. That's right at the cap with three players. They will end up paying quite a bit of luxury tax even after the various exceptions if they plan to field a full team. They will also be in the awkward position of paying their third best player the most on the team.

Is a S&T in the cards? Of course, if they get rid of Harden they don't have much perimeter scoring, and if they get rid of Howard then Bosh doesn't make nearly as much sense because they won't have a center on the roster anymore. Asik would have worked fairly well with Bosh, but they already traded him.

This all assumes that they have a way to get rid of Lin. Will they try to S&T Parsons with Lin and maybe the draft pick they got for Asik in a three way deal with Miami and someone? Miami gets Parsons and a role player from Philly, Philly gets Lin and another draft pick, Houston gets Bosh? Someone fire up the trade machine.

...and everything I've seen is still saying 96 million over 4 years.

Last year. It's 23.5 this year.

So are we parting with Parsons? How do we clear the cap room necessary?

Bird rights and pay the luxury tax?

Incidentally, the top 10 contracts are kind of awful. Kobe, Amare, and Joe Johnson are the three largest. Howard, Paul, and Durant are good, but then you have Deron Williams, Rudy Gay, and Derrick Rose at 789. Rose is more bad luck than a bad contract, but that's still at least half of the top 10 players in the NBA being waaaaaaay overpaid. Go to the top 20 and you add Carlos Boozer, Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, and Eric Gordon to the "wait, what?" list. Someone needs to knock these GMs in the head.

So signing Bosh would mean Parsons is gone?

In order for them to offer the Max to Bosh they would have to renounce Parsons which didn't make any sense but the reports coming out now that it's more around 20M/yr and not 24M/yr make more sense. That would allow them not to have to renounce Parsons.

It really depends how well they can clear out their other guaranteed contracts. Parsons has a cap hold of like 2.8mm. So that is all he counts for unless he signs a contract with the Rockets or an offer sheet with another team. So the Rockets really need to get something done before Cuban effs up their plans by giving a nice offersheet to Parsons before Bosh or Melo is a done deal.

My guess at this point is that Cuban is going to screw it up for Houston and they are going to have a make a decision. I would suspect they match on Parsons and then try to upgrade the bench or something of that nature with someone at the level of a Channing Frye or Andray Blatche.

Here's one thing I don't know about the new CBA. If Dallas does sign Parsons to an offer sheet, does the amount of the 1st year replace the $2.6M cap hold number that Parsons current counts against the Rockets?

If so, Cuban can really screw their plans up.

yes

Parsons still has to accept the deal, and I don't think he'll do that until the Rockets are ready. That was the deal. He gets paid a year early in exchange for going along with their plans.

Yeah, but these things happen all the time where a team has a "handshake" deal with a player to take care of him and then they get a better offer somewhere else. You couldn't blame Parsons if he unexpectedly gets a max deal (or close to it) and wants to lock that in for himself.

He can still take a huge offer but is just waiting until after the rockets sign somebody

I remember when Cleveland had one of those handshake agreements with Carlos Boozer so Boozer could get paid one year early.

Iirc, if Parsons wants someone's big deal, like Dallas, and they want him to sign the offer now then Houston has 2 days to match or lose him. Parsons could just not accept such a offer with the hope/promise of Houston to take care of him.
Ryan34
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No one can sign deals until the 10th anyways, right? So Houston has some time.

It's 3 days.

The Rockets could be really screwed if Lebron, Bosh, and Melo stay put as they are expected to do. All that cap space will be used up resigning Parsons when they could have had him another year on the cheap. That would be a big time backfire.

@SInow: Report: Chris Bosh tell Rockets: 'I want to be in Miami, I want to play with LeBron' http://t.co/v3KHygKYEd http://t.co/wMwtKglzuJ

Better hope LeBron leaves Miami.

It could also have backfired if they didn't because he would have been unrestricted next year.

So Bosh is coming to Houston if Lebron leaves Miami. Why is it surprising or a nut punch that he wants to go back to Miami? Everyone knew that the whole time.

It was obviously worth the risk on Parsons to try to get Lebron/Melo/Bosh. Also, if you get one more Parsons year on the cheap and miss on Lebron/Melo/Bosh then Parsons is gone after next year too. Right now it looks like they have a pretty good chance of getting Bosh and Parsons to longterm deals.
