I asked the same thing on a USA match thread.

I think it's a new macho thing players do, like: "Hey, bro, my calfs are so big I gotta cut slits in my socks. 'Cus my muscles are so big… playing soccer…"

Others on here say it's because the socks are compression socks and the players cut them for relief, but that's just dumb, and makes no sense…

I just assumed the socks this year are just not made as well, and they rip when they go for slide tackles.
Yours is definitely in line with how a lot of those star players think

Yea I dont think getting one more player up is enough to counteract a skill player putting the ball exactly where it needs to go
