My first "moccasin" I caught as a kid, was a Broad banded water snake. Caught several more thinking the same. It wasn't until I got the nerves to open up the mouth and show a friend the fangs that I realized I had the wrong ID. Had to go back and do my research (before google) to figure out what it was.
