These pictures were sent to me by a colleague who saw a patient in the ER yesterday who was bitten by "a large brown snake".
These pictures show clear fang puncture wounds in the foot. However, after monitoring in the ER for several hours the pt showed no signs of swelling around the bite wounds or coagulopathy on labs.
This is likely an example of what is known as a dry bite. The patient was very likely bit by a venomous snake, (I would guess rattlesnake based on locale where pt was reportedly bitten and distance between fangs), but the snake did not inject venom.
This is actually a pretty common occurrence and my colleague saved this guy tens of thousands of dollars by "watchful waiting" in the ER instead of giving antivenom straight off.

My first "moccasin" I caught as a kid, was a Broad banded water snake. Caught several more thinking the same. It wasn't until I got the nerves to open up the mouth and show a friend the fangs that I realized I had the wrong ID. Had to go back and do my research (before google) to figure out what it was.

I was going skinny tail and looked like a stripe through the eye. I see the lines now that I zoom in. I'll take the L on this one.
And it begins: Caught an ornery juvenile copperhead in the garage. We quite surprised eachother, but I had my snakestick nearby. I'll post pictures tomorrow.
Also, caught about a 36" rat snake in one of my traps. It was very mellow for a rat snake. Didn't spaz out when I approached or moved the trap or took some closeups, and when I cracked it open, the snake cautiously poked his head out, then calmly slithered out and into the grass right past me.
Both snakes released of course. The rat snake was free to continue touring my backyard, while the copperhead was walked about a quarter mile away and cut loose. The snake barrier seems to work. The only snakes I have caught were large climbers, or worked their way inside a couple of small gaps I haven't fixed yet, and blundered into traps I set around those spots until I can fix them properly.

Where do you live again? You seem to have lots of snakes so I assume you're in the sticks. I'm jealous.

ID help please. NE Texas, Upshur county. Looks like a Louisiana corn snake to me. He/she was whipping their tail like a rattler. Round eyes, white belly. Caught in a wood pile at my house this morning.
