here are a couple of snakes I saw recently. The first on my drive way, the second on the road as I was walking my dog. I think I know what they are, looking for verification. Location is Chapman Ranch.

Definitely right on the second one, but the other is not a rough earth. It is hard to tell for sure, but I believe it is a yellow bellied racer.

I figured. Great snake but not a pet you want around the house. Plus it looks extremely hard to move from his spot. Not sure I would of tried.

Couple evenings ago came upon a checkered garter snake about 10-12" long in front flower bed. Got near him and that sucker flattened out completely and then started to strike at me. It was cute and all but have handled and moved quite a few of those over the years and never had one act that aggressive. He bite me a couple times (not that it hurt or anything) while moving him across the fence before my dogs found him.
Is that fairly normal with them as others have been pretty docile?

Not uncommon for them and other garter species.
Caught 2 last night. 1 in a trap, 1 with my tongs. Got a few pics. Run of the mill young copperheads. I think they were enjoying the cooler weather while on their cicada hunts.
Are the copperheads eating adult cicadas or targeting the larva as they come out of the ground? I don't know much about cicadas, I thought they all came out of the ground at one time in early summer but do the larva keep coming out of their burrows throughout the summer?MouthBQ98 said:

I think they target them as they emerge. They are still flightless and must crawl around until they find something to climb and then molt.
