At least give me credit for Reptile World! That was not on Mrs. 12th Man Ag's original itinerary! Thanks to some persuasion from me and my 10-year old, Reptile World made the list.

Quite a collection of snakes and so many I had never heard of. All the standard Texas venomous snakes (except the coral), in addition to green & black mambas, gaboon viper, multiple cobras, anaconda, pythons, at least 10 different rattlers, hognoses, garter snakes, and so many more!

And thanks for making sure we don't flood the neighborhood!

Never been here or heard of this place. Will have to go one of these days.

Found a young coachwhip hunting in my front flowerbed this afternoon. He was not pleased to be discovered. darted around rapidly, the froze in a small bush once and did a false rattle with its tail, then when I went for my cell phone, it took off for the fence line like it was slithering for its life.

Those banded kingsnakes look so cool to me! I would love to see one in the wild one day.

Best thing is they have so much variation. Hardly any two are alike

I think I posted a similar video last year of ratsnakes hunting bats in a central Texas cave so here's another edition from this year. Both bats & snakes have been fewer this year than in years past but they still put on a show for those that like to watch them.

I believe they were identified as Rats last year when the video was posted. If you can go back and watch it, it's creepy and fascinating at the same time.

Holy hell! Do snakes just attack randomly like that? It's not like the snake looked at him as a meal or anything?

Actually, there are several coachwhips that do it pretty much every night at Bracken Cave when the bats are emerging.

Not to keep bringing social media posts on here but another lesson in not trusting people's snake IDs just because they're an experienced outdoorsman.

Edit - He calls it a cottonmouth in the post and claims it was his buddy in Alabama.

Not a cottonmouth. If location is correct, could be a banded a.k.a. southern water snake, but it looks like a northern water snake to me.

*edit* looks like northern water snakes do range into most of alabama so it is probably a northern water snake.

Is the fish hooked by a fisherman and the snake decided he wanted it more?

I would lean towards the fish being caught and the snake being teased with the crappie... just a gut feeling, though. I wasn't there

Water snakes will go after a struggling fish much the same that a shark will when they are hooked on a line. I have seen one try to attack a small catfish I was reeling in once.

I've had the exact same thing happen to me. Also pulled in two stringers of catfish with snakes latched on to a fish. Both were at night, so snake ID was near impossible. One of the stringers appeared to have multiple fang marks on several fish, and those fish were dead. We didn't chance it and just cut our losses.
