Apologies for my lies, or misinformation, whichever way you want to take it. Feel free to delete my previous comment mods. I was in fact referencing coachwhips, which are known to "stand" and run, which is sometimes thought to be chasing if cornered and can scare people because they are a large snake. You're correct they are tan or pinkish in SW Texas, but I have also seen them very dark closer to the river and north towards Big Bend. A lot of people in West Texas, in my little time around, call them black racers because they act similar to the eastern racer when they have such a dark color. My gf has been scared by the way they seem raise up and scurry away, but that's just my experience.

Would love to see a blue indigo while out here. I hear they are around this part of Texas, but rare.

I have rarely seen a cottonmouth west of I35 but they may be there.
Growing up we had water moccasin's in Gillespie county in stock tanks. About an hour west of I35.

I have seen water moccasins in the Leona River in Uvalde a time or two. We also saw a blue indigo come out of one tree and go into another during supper one time many years ago when I was HS or Jr. High age. We looked out the kitchen window and saw him moving out of a large live oak. Mom, Dad, my brother and I got up from the table just to go outside and watch him for 10 minutes or so. Very cool snake & I'm glad we got to see it.

I saw one crossing 83 near Concan once. It's head and tail reached from across the side to center stripes of the road as it slithered across, had to be very nearly 10 feet long.

Yeah, I've seen a few in that area, as well as down in Carrizo Springs. Here's one I saw last year eating a water snake by a pond:

Ha yeah.... looks like an editing thing not an ID thing. Somebody is good with snakes but not so much editing/publishing software.

Flat headed snake looks just like an earthworm.

And Mane, you get some great pics. That timber rattler is really a nice looking snake. The only ones I ever see are at the in-laws cabin in PA and they are mostly all black phase so you can't really pick up the patterning that well. Seen a few yellow phase ones but nothing near as striking as that one in that pic.

Here's a real coral snake. This is probably the same snake I posted awhile back, just taken on a different day. These photos were taken maybe four feet from the location of the previous photo I posted. In the first photo part of its body had slid down between the tin and board, so it's really longer than it looks in the photo. The second shot shows it heading back to its hiding spot. The head has just entered a small hole taking it back into the cracks and crevices in the dirt floor in that part of the shed.

I saw about 3 or 4 diamondback water snakes today but zero stood still for pictures. Warm weather has them and the gators moving.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6830243/Dozens-rattlesnakes-removed-Texas-home.html
Quote:

Forty-five rattlesnakes were found living under the home of a Texas man who called a pest removal service after seeing 'a few' of the critters.

Nathan Hawkins, owner of Big Country Snake Removal, recounted the unusually busy day at work in a Facebook post with an 18-minute video of the job that will make your skin crawl.

Hawkins said he was called to a family home outside of Albany, about 150 miles west of Dallas, last week by a man who had crawled under the structure to investigate why the cable had gone out.

When he went to look for himself, Hawkins said: 'I could immediately see that there was far more than a "few".'

The company ended up removing 45 snakes from under the house, the longest of which was five-and-a-half feet long.

In the video, several of the snakes appeared quite irritated about the disturbance at their winter home.

According to Hawkins, the family - whose identity withheld - was stunned by the discovery given that they rarely saw rattlesnakes in their well-kept yard.

'We run into this scenario often, and people don't think it can happen to them,' he wrote in the Facebook post.

'Rattlesnakes don't care how nice your house is or what kind car you drive- they care simply about survival.'
