Welcome to the thread that's filled with former "kill them all" folks like me. I now only kill rattlesnakes that scare the **** out of me. If I see them from afar I admire them with my Judge still in my holster.

You'll learn a ton on this thread. I used to be the "kill them all let satan sort them out" type guy, but I'm learning how to identify non-venomous snakes and letting them live. I will still kill any venomous snake in my yard because my son is only 4 and my yard backs up to a field with several trees. Most on this board would agree with that. Mouth relocates copperheads because he is fascinated with snakes, me, not so much.

Thank you for the info. I've not seen one before hence my questions. Yellow bands were up to half inch and sharp detail between black and yellow. So long as it's not some kind of coral, I'm good and looking out for it. I should take a photo next time instead of grabbing a hoe.
I'm pretty much a live / relocate kind of guy, but I'd take exception to that. Every once in a while I come across a snake with a nasty disposition like that. Given he's packing some heat, I'd have dispatched that one.MouthBQ98 said:
Found a 24" copperhead in the front yard s couple nights ago. Shocker, I know. Anyhow, he was a funny guy, like a grumpy old man being shoed along as I used a stick to nudge him away from the house. He'd go 2-3 feet, then turn around and coil up and protest, strike the stick a time or two, then move again and repeat the process over and over. Grumpy snake.

I don't think this guy was too happy with me spraying him with Bifen. Didn't see him at first and now he hasn't moved.
. Thanks. Most were convinced it was a baby rattlesnake. I promised them it wasn't.12f Mane said:

You had a solid argument considering it has no rattle
that was my thought. But one lady (with a DVM no less) insisted they don't get rattles until "puberty".12f Mane said:

Saw a copperhead on the Lick creek park trails just before my dogs stepped in its range. I kill all venomous snakes on our property to keep everyone safe from accidental bites but seeing as this is a park I scared it off and went on my way. But I cant stop thinking that I should've killed it to keep others from accidentally getting bit.
