Some species will come up, watersnakes in particular
Just as you responded to this, buddy of mine sent me a pic of a plain bellied watersnake near a walking trail a couple days ago. It looked pretty emaciated so I assume it was taking advantage of the warmer weather snap to look for a meal.12f Mane said:

Sounds like the perfect set up to have your own personal drift fence-trap array. Share results here!MouthBQ98 said:
I've been installing my 24" tall 1/4" hardware cloth mesh barrier around the base of my backyard fence. Should be too small for even juvie copperheads. Once I clear the backyard it should be fairly safe. Then I can hunt the front yard and side lots just for fun with much less worry about another $1100 vet bill.

I'm going to be doing field work the next few months in Val Verde and western Kinney counties. Besides rattlers and copperheads, are there any other venomous one to be on the lookout for? Do cotton mouths make it this far west?

I've seen black racers or coachwhips out there. They are hella scary because they'll chase you but are nonvenomous. They're both damn quick too
