I was almost able to contribute for first time today. I was out riding my bike and surprised a red banded water snake?? At least I was pretty sure that was the proper id from my learnings on here. I really enjoy this thread.

Snake did not stay around long enough to get a picture though

Plain belly? That was my first thought as I saw the bands under his mouth, but I figured I'm not near a body of water besides the pool so I went with the easier guess. Stupid sun-fogged brain.

Copperhead (got the body mostly but you can see the head to the left, and then close up of the head)

Yeah I knew it was a rat snake, which was why I was fine hanging around it so long. They are brazen here though, I came within a step of stepping on it the thing never moved, and then as a I sat there watching it it totally didn't even care.

I am in northern Virginia (that pic was along the Potomac), the three snakes I see here regularly are rattlers, copperheads and rat snakes. The only exception was this one a few years ago, this one I didn't know as quickly (pic was taken off a video).

I am thinking google is right and it's a milk snake. I think at the time I thought king snake, but didn't drill down much.
That pic was a couple of years ago at great falls national park (close to my house so I'm there a lot), but when I look at their snakes page, it's one of the three pictures they have and it does seem to match.

I know what this first snake is, what about the second? These were take at my house in Chapman Ranch, Texas (just south of Corpus Christi and up against the King Ranch).
