12F, What's the story on a deal like this? Do they often run afoul of each other? No way that Coral could eat that rattler. Was he defending himself?

I'd be curious as well. I'm in the "deathly afraid, but genuinely curious about snakes" camp.

Corals have definitely made a resurgence in that part of Bell County. They're a fairly rare species from what I understand, but I've seen them more than Rattlesnakes this last year.

I run trails out there weekly and keep up with others and we have encountered half a dozen corals in the last year. From my small sample size, that's more than we have of rattlesnakes.

They killed a coral probably about a mile from that area in a soccer field in Belton (Heritage for ProgNightmare) They weren't going to spend time to remove it unfortunately, since there were 100 kids out there. I'd have been more understanding of killing a rattler because they're more aggressive. You basically have to beg a coral to bite. So I'm curious if it's territorial in this fight's instance.

I definitely think the coral could eat that. Corals feed mostly on other snakes, especially the small brown ones people see in their yards. Part of the reason they hang on in urban settings. My guess is the photographer spooked the coral off its meal and it didn't come back.

Except that it did! After our run, one of the guys took his family out there to hike and the coral was in its exact spot but baby rattler was gone.

I'll see if I can imugr the second pic.

This has been my best snake encounter, posted on the 2017 thread. This was Universal City area on a golf course. Heard rustling in the leaves and walked over to see the coral's lunch.

Corals have really made a resurgence lately. Probably has something to with hogs.

Found this guy dead in one of our sprinkler solenoid covers, someone that was working on our fence thought he saw something go in there two days before. Shame I couldn't get him out before. Water snake was about 30-34" long, no wonder he couldn't get out

Bought a new house and found two of these within 8 hours (one in the pool and one in the kitchen). Is this rough earth snake?
