Just saw a black tail rattlesnake a little west of Rocksprings. Actually it makes the 3rd one this morning. Not sure what is up, but they are stirring today.

Real question is, did it rattle? Not having hogs up there makes the odds significantly higher that it rattled

This guy was hanging in my yard eating lizards.
My wife is terrified of snakes, so we captured and relocated for the safety of the snake and my wife.

Slow summer. The drought at my place (1" rain since June 1) has sent the snakes to water or into a hybernation state. I did find a little hog nose on the trail at Buescher state park, and he put on his cobra act. Outside of that, nothing in a month.

I'm in West TN and same here. No rain. Only snake I've seen was on Sunday at a local lake I was fishing at. Northern Watersnake I believe. No pic, my phone ran out of juice while fishing.

I know that when we'd go looking for snakes in West Texas, we'd follow the radar. Anywhere where it had rained recently had a much better shot of finding snakes on the road than otherwise. I remember once at dusk it had rained recently and we found 22 snakes in a 2 mile stretch.

Hognose... eastern hognose if you want more specific. The hood flare is a dead giveaway for them.

Looks just like my Eastern Hognose I have at home who I switched over to eating mice. I'd totally come get it if I was in Houston. Love those snakes.

Found by my trail running crew at Miller Springs in Temple.









Coral had bit the Rattler and he was still fighting a bit so the coral was letting him die. Friend went out hiking and the coral was still there but not looking fat enough to have eaten, so I'm wagering something else came along and got it.
