Thanks for the review. A little bummed as I ordered XL since they claimed athletic fit. Typically wear a large in everything but hate tight clothing...guess I'll see what shows up and if I can shrink them

If my beech teets make mine too tight I'll swap you. But if it fits the way I hope you're SOL.

You might be okay, could just be personal preference how they fit, I hate loose clothes.

Also camofire is letting me swap out the charcoals for the kodiaks no problem!

Hot damn we're getting close.

Few minor adjustments and some work and boom I'm headed out. Scouring google earth I've found a few spots I may want to sit on midday. What am I missing in my day pack for prime sit areas I may stumble upon.

I have: tarp, sandwiches.

Anyone have a packable inflatable chair they like?

Interesting. I just ordered some Ramcat Diamondbacks 100 gr today. Curious to see how they shoot...

These are the diamondbacks.. my bad.

I think I'm just not so sharp out that far. They've grouped good at closer distances.

I think he means 100 yards. You need to leave now. You ready.

I've been shooting Ramcat 100s for 4 years. They have been great so far, I've killed lots of deer and pigs and all have had great blood trails me short tracking jobs.
Edit:
They group great past 60 yds btw.

Just read it again, and I think you're right on both accounts.

Ya that's why I got the big dumb paint job. I don't see targets so good.

But you right...I ready.

I'm pumped about these broadheads because I believe this is the year I get to put two holes in an elk. I'm at 524 grains going 276 fps and really happy w my arrow flight.

Let's get a count of all you guys that are hunting early season, where you're hunting (GPS coords optional), what, how, when you're headed out, etc...

I'll start since I'm cheating and not hunting big game.

Immediately after work on Thursday, Aug 31 run home and throw the dogs in the pre-loaded truck. Head WNW to the Nebraska National Forest. Meet up with GatorAg03 there and pray he doesn't make me drive to Alaska so he can kill another bison and flip a raft in the icy rivers for I am without a French Press that would be necessary to ensure survival in those conditions.

Wake up before dawn on Sept. 1 and venture forth into the Sandhills of Nebraska with shotgun in hand and dogs at heel. Chase Sharpies and Chickens until it is too warm to run the dogs. Then scout mid-day and possibly jump some dove or teal (<-- but no teal until Saturday the 2nd). Lather, rinse, repeat for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and then head home. This is really just a warm weather scouting trip for later in the month, but with any luck we'll still scare up a few feathers.

TL;DnR: Prairie Grouse in the Sandhills of Nebraska over Labor Day weekend.

SW Colorado... Wilderness area... Archery Muley E/S draw tag / Archery OTC Elk E/S tag... Solo Backpack Hunt... Leaving this Friday.

The plan is to focus on deer, ignoring the elk tag in my pocket, even though I'm ElkHorny.

Edit: I'm going back the last week of season specifically for Elk.

So you're grouse hunting too?

I've never officially been "grouse hunting", but I've sure killed and eaten a lot of those suckers on the mountain over the years.

Also, Western Alaska DIY moose hunt. Start September 15th.

I reckon I'll center punch another grouse or two this year.

I don't recall seeing any grouse last year. Do you need any additional license than an OTC elk tags? Any particular place (cover, food source, etc.) to look for them?

Look high. The upper 1/3 of ridges, high saddles, etc. They're not the smartest bird ever, and rarely see people. Often times they'll just walk under a bush and let you just walk right by them. Maybe 1 in 10 birds wild flushes, so if you aren't watching for them it's possible you'll never notice.

Edit: It's also possible depending on where you are hunting that there simply are none. I've never seen one where I mule deer hunt, but they were everywhere last year on my elk hiking trip.

Leaving Friday morning. Hopefully have camp setup, cameras checked, and a solid plan for Saturday morning by dark. Archery OTC E/S and cow tags so first legal thing that walks out is getting smoked.

And I'm out for blood on the grouse that cost me a set of trekking poles and gave me a scare. I know where she lives and i'll have small game with her name on it

Small Game license $55... and you need to write the new HIP # on your license after completing online Harvest Info Program (HIP)

Headed out tmw morning for north of de beque, co. Solo drivin. I'll have an elk tag and the two guys I'm meeting there will both have deer tags and most likely elk as well.

I'm pretty fat by personal end of August standards.

I will have a French press and plenty of chocolate.

I am an any legal bull kind of guy.

My first ever "elk hunt" was North of DeBeque in 31. Got separated/lost from my hunting party in a pretty remote area. Spent 1 night under the stars with an e-blanket and a nice fire. Good times.

Backpack hunting in Colorado on public land is borderline erotic, but I absolutely loathe the act of packing a backpack with 8 days worth of gear.

Good stuff guys. Good luck out there.

I'm not heading west until January, so I'm living vicariously through all of you. I'll be tree stand hunting in Madison County until then.

Headed out tomorrow for Colorado! I'll be tagging along with two buddies since I just got my bow this year and am learning the craft of elk hunting (emptied my pockets after all the gear too ha, so a tag is out of my budget this season). We'll be in unit 78 with OTC tags. Might pickup a small game license for some grouse on the tail end of the 10 day trek.

My wife just moved all of my stuff from the living room to the guest bedroom and told me everything must stay in there.
