How far out was that lone cow?
~4 miles from a ranch house in the middle of the desert which I assume belongs to the owner of these cattle.
She was traveling between 2 water holes... Bout a mile apart. All the cow sht I saw on trip 1 was old, really old. The tire troughs at the windmill (primary) were empty and had been for quite some time. On this trip (#2) the tire trough at the windmill was full of loose mineral and several blocks of salt.... barely touched yet. There were about 25 big head hanging out at the secondary water source. It appears they were just turned out. I'm guessing I'll have more cow pics in the future. I'm not really concerned about em. I might even get one of those ridiculous "cow camo dekes" to use during season.
I can imagine a number of scenarios where I could successfully deploy a cow decoy and kill something.

Somehow I've lucked into being invited on ranch hunts in NM and CO. I'm concerned about bringing the recurve and it being perceived as inconsiderate
or something of that nature or whatever if the hosts don't understand.
I definitely don't want to do anything this year and get crossed off the list. I'm thinking about taking a compound to Colorado (not as much risk in the nm trip I don't believe).

I could possibly see them being a little put off when they find out you've just started out with trad archery this year, esp the Colorado folks.

Got home all bummed about golf and fiddled w my dads zxt then shot a few before dark. Arrows flew great and I think my shooting fundamentals are better than ever, but I sure don't like that bow.
I was crucified on this board once before for saying this but the Z line of bows (Z7, ZXT, etc) is what turned me away from Mathews. They set the riser so far back in the bow that it would take a 2 foot long stabilizer to give it any sort of balance. Those models moved me to Bowtech, and I'm currently sitting a Hoyt.
