7D has been out about 2 years. It is the first camera of its kinda, but it will probably be replaced over the next 6mo. I would expect an announcement within the next two months.

Same with the 5D Mark II. It has been out three years. It was announced when the 5D I had been out 3 years.

The 1D Mark IV has been out since 3Q 09. The 1D Mark III was out for 2.5 years before the IV was announced. It was about 3 years between the Mark II and the Mark II, but there was a middle camera, Mark IIn that was released about halfway through the cycle.

So all three top of the line Canons are due to be replaced or updated in the next 6mo.

Canon Rumors is thinking the next Canon DSLR announcement will be in October. No specifics yet on what lines will get new bodies.

I am planning on buying a DSLR to shoot real estate photos and would also like to be able to venture in video as well.

I've leaning towards a Canon T2i because it meets my minimum requirements and it will allow me more budget room for a wide angle lens and a good tripod.

Is this a sound plan or should I look at a different body? This is my first venture into DSLRs, had an old Rebel film version back in the day, not a complete noob but close to it.

they would never do it but i would cream my pants if canon announced one of their cameras would shoot 3K video.

What is your budget to shoot architecture?

T2i + Canon 10-22 EF-S would be a pretty good kit to start with.

I still keep wanting to get more into video, but haven't spent the time.

I did get a 400 2.8L IS for football this year. It really has a steep learning curve from the 300 2.8L IS.

i can imagine.
i watched a video of the guys who did the pickup shots for the dogfight scenes in the new wwii film red tails. They used a bunch of different digital cameras and one crew was set up with a 1D. the poor guy's 1st ac was having to pull focus on a 600mm f/4L is.

I'm hoping to spend around $1000 to start out. Im willing to cough up a little more if it is worth it for much better quality. Im thinking I might go ahead and spend the extra $100 or so for the T3i. 2 of the 3 only differences between the 2 models are very video centric, the articulating screen and zoom feature. I am planning on turning this into a business and video is where I will be able to set myself apart so it seems worth it.

Ive been looking at a Sigma 10-20 for the lens. I've seen recommendations from RE photogs on that one to start with.

I had the Sigma 10-20 and it is a great lens as well.

You would lose 10% of your image, but the Tokina 11-16 is a very solid performer as well.
wealeat09
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Im fairly poor so the Sig seems like a good choice to get started, the Tokina is another option, ut I like the idea of having the extra range. Id love the Canon but I just can't swing that starting off.

Also for my "multipurpose" lens would a 18-55 kit lens or the nifty fifty be better? I have no idea what else ill shoot yet but id like a versatile lens that takes sharp photos.

Im leaning towards buying the T3i body, 10-20 Sigma, and the nifty fifty.

I think the 10-20, 50 and T3i would be a safe bet.

For cheap, I am a big fan of the 35 2.0, 50 1.8 and 85 1.8. The 85 is the best of the group by far.

Missed that auction, because I'm an idiot and forgot that https didn't work with the lite version of the tethering app I'm using. Would have bid $1000 with a minute left...

I'm fairly annoyed, missed it by that much. Unreal prices.

I need help! Hello all, I have a teleconverter stuck to a lens and cannot get it off for the life of me. It's a Tamron 2x tele. Any ideas? I'm really nervous about forcing it too much, I don't want to damage my 300mm lens that it is attached to. Has anybody ever experienced this or have any ideas? The timing blows, I'm leaving for a 10-day trip to the Tetons/Yellowstone in 13 days, so shipping it off somewhere for a repair seems like a bad idea. Worst case scenario I just leave it on for the trip but I'd really prefer not to, I only like using the tele under certain situations and it's not idea to leave it on. Anyway, I really could use some advice. I just emailed Tamron but probably won't hear back for a few days. Thanks.

I've heard of filters getting stuck, I think this is the first time I've heard of a TC getting stuck on.

I really hate two of the lenses in that package. the 18-55 and 55-250 are near worthless. The other one is great and runs about 125.

The body with a 18-55 lens is 850 on B&H, so that is a pretty good deal for that kit.

Is there any market out there to sell those other two lenses? What could I get for them?
Guitarsoup
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not much of a market. But Craigslist always surprises. If you bough the body alone, you are at 700. + 50mm 1.8=850. So you need to make 75 each to break even, not counting the 25$ memory card and the bag. Plus the cost of your time dealing with all that.

Ok, I am this (making gesture with thumb and forefinger) close to buying something. If I don't order something soon, I have a feeling my wife will walk into best buy qnd buy the most expensive camera theyve got.

Anyway, is there any major differences in the T1i, t2i & T3i? I tried comparing the 2&3 on canons site, bu t there didn't seem to be much difference (other than articulating screen, that would never get used)

Also, does the self cleaning sensor unit matter? It looks like the t1i doesnt have one.
Karrde
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm pretty sure my old rebel Xsi had a self cleaning sensor, I think all the rebels you listed will have it. The T1i had a sensor that's one generation back from the T2i and T3i. That primarily affects high iso capability and image quality (though they're all good sensors, you're likely limited by your lens quality at this point, not the sensor). I think the T3i selling point was mostly the swivel LCD, I don't know that there we any real changes to the internals of the camera.

Well I looked for this thread last week but search would not find it.
Pulled the trigger on a D7000 yesterday and am happy as can be today. Amazing photos and I am just scratching the surface on the learning curve.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
guitarsoup,

I am looking for a point and shoot camera.
I am not camera savvy, so i dont see my self using a dslr with multiple lenses. I would like something decent under $500.

Below are the cameras I am considering. thoughts?

Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100V
Canon PowerShot SX30 IS
Nikon Coolpix P100
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100
Seven11
How long do you want to ignore this user?
pascuall, check out the Canon S95. It's an excellent P&S, small form factor, and you should be able to find it for a reasonable price since the S100 just got announced.

so i have been looking in the wrong direction?

i will check out the Canon S95...
Guitarsoup
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I like the S95 or the Canon G12. S100 whenever you can get it.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
i have a small point and shoot, kinda wanted something bigger... my thought is bigger is better?

what kinda of dslr and lense should i look at? i might have to up my budget and go that route.
Guitarsoup
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Depends what you want to shoot. But I wouldn't look at DSLRs unless you:
1. are willing to make a 1500-2000k investment minimum
2. are willing to make a significant time investment in learning how to use the camera in manual exposure modes.

If you are unsure if you want to make the time investment, buy a G12, which can be used completely manually or completely automatically. If you bought a cheap rebel with a cheap lens, you would get similar image quality on automatic as you would the G12 on auto.

If you spend the time to know how to use the G12 manually and want to take the next step, go fora DSLR. But most people aren't that serious and they spend more than they should on a Rebel of D90 when a G12 would suit their needs completely.

i dont think i will get into different lenses and spending time and money. thats why i was looking at the ones with a a set lense.

The G and S series from Canon are point and shoots, not SLRs.

Other than $15, what is the difference in these 2 lenses?
