And I think I need a new computer. It takes forever to edit my pictures now.

You may want to try to switch it to center focus, as the multipoint auto may have problems searching in low light.

Not after 7 (or some number around there) days. It wasn't on the first page yesterday, so I bumped it.

G9 is the best around.
chopperdave06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
the g9 is also 3 times the price. it was the first camera i looked at, althoughi wont be using it enough to warrant spending that much money. but now, with you mentioning it, im trying to convince myself that i will. i just wanted something a lot more compact than my dslr, but still wanted to have manual controls so i can work on the technical side of things.

What do you folks think of this camera backpack?

I've heard nothing but good things, and will be buying it before heading to Mexico.

I saw it at BB for almost 80 bucks and then looked it up online and found it for less than half that. And with 606 reviews it must be good. I'd rather have a backpack vs a regular camera bag.

On bags, here is my philesophy:

I hate bags that say Canon, Tamron or Nikon on them because they are obviously camera bags. That makes you a target.

I have a regular old Adidas backpack. Inside I can fit my laptop, camera and a few lenses. I use the padded dividers to keep it cushioned inside.

My heavy duty bags are all the LowePro bags that don't look as much like a camera bag, but more like luggage.

Yeah, they're not the most masculine things but Crumplers are real nice.

For a small bag, I really like the Lowepro Slingshots.

I also have a ThinkTank, but its probably a little overkill unless you have to carry a lot of gear.

I have a LowePro Slingshot and I love it as a small walk-around bag. You're definitely going to need something larger for anything more than a day trip though.

Just FYI I ended up getting the Lowepro 170 AW and I really like it. It holds my camera, 2 short lenses and one long lens. I also like the all weather cover that's built in.

I haven't read through all of these pages but where does everyone like to get prints made?

I use http://www.mpix.com and I've heard good things about http://www.whcc.com

They are far from the cheapest alternative though.

I just picked up a shiny new Canon EOS XSi last night. I wanted an entry level SLR to get me started and this thing fits the bill. I have only played with it for a few hours, but I must say I am very impressed so far.

I was going to wait until I could purchase online, but it seems that Canon is supplying brick and mortar stores first. Amazon pushed their release date back to June so I went ahead and took the tax hit because I wanted some time to play with it and learn before going to Greece this summer.

You should be able to snag one at Best Buy or Circuit City if you are in the market now and can't wait a month or 2.

Update:

Here are a few shots I have taken so far, nothing spectacular but cool none the less...

Cool. What lens did you get with it?

Avatar02

Well I have the kit lens which is the 18-55 IS. I didn't really want it, but didn't have a choice buying in store. I have a 50mm 1.8 on the way. Going to start with that, and then possibly look for another lens before my trip to greece this summer.

Okay I have a question...

I'm using Adobe Lightroom 1.4.1 with my new XSi. RAW files import just fine, but if I shoot in RAW+JPEG then Lightroom says the RAW files are corrupted or are in the wrong format and only imports the JPEG's. Am I doing something wrong? I've spent a little time looking around, but haven't found anything yet. I'm going to keep looking, but I thought someone here could help.

Thanks in advance...

There is no reason to shoot in RAW+JPG. It just takes more room up on your memory card. Shoot RAW only or JPG only. Then import the RAW and use LR.
tlepoC
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There are reasons to use RAW + JPG but not many great ones unless you are a professional and want example pictures accessible within minutes of shooting for clients to peruse.

Thanks for the advice. That was my plan until I figured out the issue. Still seems weird to me...

Even if you are shooting to print on site, if you have an assistant, the conversion wouldn't take long. If you don't have an assistant for that work, you arent charging enough.

I've got a question:

We're going to the Canadian Rockies and some of the surrounding area (may stop by Yellowstone, who knows). This means a LOT of beautiful scenery shots, and if I'm lucky I may get some good wildlife shots. I've been saving up for a Nikon D40, and I've got enough, but I am curious if now would be the best time to pull the trigger. I'm currently using a Canon Powershot S2IS, and it does very well with a 6-72 mm 1:2.8-3.5 lens. The kit lens that comes with the Nikon is an 18-55 mm 3.5-5.6 Nikkor. Now, it goes without saying that while Nikon's kit lens is decent, it's probably not much of an improvement over what the Powershot's got. I'm not real certain if
1) I'll have the money to get a different lens
2) If I want to learn how to use my DSLR with that kind of pressure.

The second one isn't really that big of a deal, I'll probably have the Powershot along regardless. I'm just curious as to whether or not I should wait until I know I can get a better lens to come with the D40. What do you guys think?
