Solo knocking out a Quetzal

with no one on to help. had to do this last night. It was a chore and almost ended badly several times but in the end, got a Quetzal! Did a sweep of the entire map and then started double backing the entire map again. Second time around the Volcano around treeline but higher alt i saw TWO! I went and grabbed a scorp and began the task.

It sucked and was frustrating because he would take off when hit and then if anything was in the area it would attack me and i had to land several times. Took a good 50 mins to down him all said and done. I think it would be so easy if i had someone to carry and knock out the ol' tried and true method.

So after he goes down he falls immediately and directly down so it's dumb luck that i was high enough up the mountain i did not get too many visitors during the tame. Although it was attacked twice so the taming efficiency went to crap. Don't care though. Also, can't make a saddle yet since it's a level 80 requirement :/

That's awesome! While we've hunted alphas by picking up an archer (not that effective, as dinos do much more damage against alphas than we can do with bows or guns) I haven't thought of picking up another dino for that. Were you able to hit him in the air, or just when he landed? How fast does he fly?

I'll have to check out your quetzal next time I'm on. Is he in your main base?

Never saw him land, i had to ease up under his neck and my scorp was on aggressive and i had scoped him before and set to attack that target so whenever I got in the right spot, the scorp would hit him. Took forever and I thought he was gonna die or something (as usual) was going to get me. He flies pretty quick but only saw as he was on follow. Have not flown him since i am only 75 and need to be 80 to make the saddle... so it may be a while. Going to hunt red drops for a saddle and just hope one can drop from a crate.

Currently, he's chillin in tower base, level 1.

So there is another way to take one down solo... :-O

Ok that was impressive - but I'm curious how he just clicked on an inventory item and it automatically went to the other inventory. Is there a magic key-press I've been missing?

Also found this which is how I took down the one last night...yes it sucked @$$ solo.

DinosMatter managed to get one last night, too. She is a lowly lvl 6, but it was still cool. Many thanks the Shaft and Texas Aggies tribe (that is the correct tribe name, yes?) for their help in spotting her and also helping gather some prime for taming.

It was quite an interesting tame. I had picked up Creto with Aurthor and after locating the bird it took about 20 minutes to actually bring her down (the hit box appears to be quite small). She fell out of the sky over a dense forest that we spent another 20 minutes chopping trees down in trying to find her. Finally, right about when I was ready to quit, assuming she had been eaten by something, I look up. There she is, floating at the top of tree level. Eff.... I fly up to her and see she is just past half on torpor. We had only one option. Creto and I set out to build a platform up to her. Probably 45 minutes later we finally had it high enough and enough space at the top to land an argent. I click in the her inventory and she has exactly 30 torpor points left. Yikes. That was way too close. It was easy going from there, really, though. Nothing to bother us all the way up there. Took a while for the tame itself, but now Strato is safely back in the castle!

Yeah, it was a little daunting when, while the forest was still in place and we couldn't see squat and suddenly there's a sabertooth jumping on me, and then Bru gets attacked by a Carno. By the time we had that platform built, there wasn't much forest left for about 50 yards around it, lol.

Worked for me just now and I am never on.

Since it seems many are getting burned out, how about some raiding? I've been playing on an unofficial server with 302 max player level, 25x tame/gather/xp and fast nights. Raiding and pvp are allowed though most of the time it's smash in the door and take what you can carry. Only a few take it overboard and do any real destruction. The good thing is getting it all back is easy. You can get to max level in an hour or two.

The server name is The Abyss, IP is 162.248.247.22:17215.

I've got a base started in the center of the map where our old base on TCOV was. Let me know if you want to join.

It appears that there is dino breeding now as well. That could be cool.

That demo was awesome. Killed Skywalker as Vader at one point. Tie fighters are terrible, though. Hard as eff to fly.

Skywalker vs vader would have been cool to see. I was Vader once but I didn't see Luke.

The first time I got in a tiefighter I hadn't figured out you can slow your ship. I zoomed back and forth blasting lasers and rockets ineffectually until I finally tried to go hari kari into the hanger. I missed and ended up splatted against the mountainside - still didn't kill anyone in it.

The demo was very visually pretty and definitely fun, but I don't think the game will have much staying power - too COD-like, with so many missed opportunities that we are all spoiled into expecting (developing real classes, vehicles play, etc).

Ok - so give us the summary of how this happens and how to take care of them.

Well, let me tell you about the birds and the bees...

When a mommy rex and a daddy rex love each other a lot, they go into a quiet room together and "wander" about. After enough "wandering" near each other, out pops a fertilized egg from the momma.


Short of it:

• at least one male, can be multiple females
• pen them up in a small area (I built a mating chamber for them)
• turn wander on for the dinos, and you'll start seeing a beating heart above each of the dinos that are mating, and a progress bar on the females
• after they've been around each other long enough, out pops a fertilized egg
• to hatch said egg, you have to incubate it, which means just keeping it out at a specific temp for that species (some eggs need warmer, others need colder)
• If you need to pause your incubation, you can toss the egg in the fridge. Progress does not change.
• After enough time incubating, out pops the new baby, and you "imprint" on it (claim)
• You basically have to hand feed it in the very beginning since the inventory won't hold much
• They steadily get bigger and will eventually eat from the trough

Some points of note, some posts say to encumber them so they can't move with wander on, but they evidently fixed that. They won't mate if encumbered.

They'll inherit a random stat from their parents. 70% chance it's a good stat, 30% chance it's a crap stat

Dinos don't have to be in the same tribe to breed

Males can immediately re-mate, females have to wait for a period displayed on their HUD.

On a side note, 2k, wreck and I tried the Survival of the fittest a few times last night. I say a few times because our first attempt lasted around 5 min. We were discussing our brilliant strategy when the event night/day switch happened. It instantly went dark and some guy stepped out and killed all three of us with a bow.

Next attempt went way better, got our selves a drop but then 2k fell off a cliff at night and was eaten Nya dilo. Wreck and I forged ahead, managed to tame the brood mother to wreck some havoc. And by that, I mean wreck left me and went to kill stuff before the brood mother despawned. Well she left and left wreck in the wilderness.

The dragon spawned so I thought I would tame it. Started the process when I noticed a carno in the distance walk into the starting platform. Crap, had to be a tamed one and all I had was a bow and tranq arrows. I assumed I wasn't seen, so I crawled away hoping to take a few shots at the player. Turns out, the player was a 5 star general in real life, because he managed to outflank me and I believe I crawled right into his awaiting carno's mouth.

I'm not sure how wreck did as I had to go to sleep. But the last words I heard were, "I don't even care about winning I just want to knock that player off the carno". So I raise my glass, hoping wreck was able to avenge my death.
