Eh, depends on the reason. If it's for the achievement, go for it, but gathering berries I would suggest a mammoth. They move faster and they get a ton of wood/thatch.

keep getting:

"Host Connection Timeout|
Lost/timeout connection to host."

errors when trying to get in. Not sure if it just needs a server restart to the latest patch but it would be nice it an admin would log in at least once a day to look for patch/updates.

Like mentioned, I can help assist if current admins don't check in very often (at least every few days :/).

RCON is now up and running so updating and restarts should be a bit easier.

I'm typing TCOV in the "Server Name Filter" search and it tells me no sessions found. I guess that means the server is down now?

I had a bad, bad night. I got on this evening for some Jurassic fun, and Creto and I built a FOB on the beach so we could have a place to mine ocean resources (picture below). We both took an argentavis and a raptor, and flew over there, built a decent base, then as we were getting to leave we tangled with two t-rex's, separately.

Unfortunately, as I was running to help creto out, and I found the wrong t-rex. It killed my raptor (RIP Freddy Mercury), so we sadly interred his remains and flew home. Then, I got the bright idea to find a replacement raptor, so after not finding much I settled on a little lvl 12 raptor and we tamed her pretty quickly (Freddy Venus).

I then found a second, level 51 rapter, so we started to tame him and I took the new 15 with me and Freddy Badass to kill brontos for prime meat. The level bronto aggro'd on the new Freddy Venus and stomped her to death, then, just as we finished eating the bronto, Freddy Badass and I were attacked by three raptors that trapped us - we were hemmed in on all sides and literally couldn't move.

Freddy's health was dropping fast and he couldn't attack anyone from where he was stuck, so I hopped off and killed two of the wild raptors - Freddy got the third. Just as I was telling Creto we were in the clear, I was spit on by a dilo and everything went dark. I knew Freddy Badass and I were close to death, and as more dilos and a scorpion joined the fight, I tried to fight my way to Freddy to get the scorpion to aggro on me, and the next thing I saw was that Freddy was killed ... by me. So, I totally understand if I log in tomorrow and none of the doors work. I probably deserve to be kicked out of DinosMatter.

To finish the story, I flew out on Airmail to try to find my body, and as I was searching up and down the beach, I thought I saw something and hopped off to check. I was attacked by another raptor and a scorpion, and died. When I went back to get Airmail he was gone ... just gone. Creto and I looked for him up and down the beach, but couldn't find a sign of him. I took a pteranadon back and forth spamming J to try to get him to follow me, but I guess he aggro'd on something and chased it away. Finally, after probably two hours of this, I found him way up in the woods over a hill from where I lost him.

Creto finished training the lvl 51 raptor (which got a bonus to put him at 61 - Freddy Earth), and I am calling it a night - maybe for good.

Here's the final tally of my evening's activities:
-Freddy Mercury
+Freddy Venus
-Freddy Venus]
-Freddy Baddass
+Freddy Earth
-Airmail
+Airmail
+1 new base

Here's the new base:

Tough night for Ark03, but without his help, we wouldn't have either of the forward spots. We have a postage stamp place on the mainland now (quite literally, it's a safe room/spawn point with a weak fence). So if anyone dies and wonders why there's two new spawn points, that's why.

As an aside, Feisty and Thorny are coming along nicely.

Dude you have the best stories. If we kicked people out for ridiculous adventures like yours, well most of the tribe would be gone.

Did you log in last night mid? I saw an in-game message that you died.

Also, when I logged into the game I was dead.... I'm going to start dropping my inventory and tools before I log off - this is getting old.

Well, I found Thorny. He had somehow glitched in the base, but seems to be fine now. However, he now is mate boosted, thanks to his new friend I found tonight, FedEx.

Did a little thieving yesterday. Found someones storage cache that had 75 metal walls, and a crap load of metal windows/doors/ramps/spikes. Loaded up all the dinos and made a few trips. (Tina the trike sadly drowned from getting stuck on a rock and maybe being a little over burdened.) Upgraded my base real well. They didn't have any metal foundations, and I don't have nearly enough metal/ cement to build the 9 we needed for a 3x3 base so I improvised.
I built a stone foundation and then the rest of the base out of metal. After that I placed metal fences along the base of the wall and flush against it. There is no stone visible and this was crazy cheaper than metal foundations. Is there any reason this won't work just as well?

Also, are we reasonably safe from retribution inside of a metal shell? I imagine the guys are going to be pissed when they log on and find ~20,000+ metal and who knows how much cement gone. Luckily there is another base in between us, so hopefully they get blamed.

I've had the best luck finding/taming stuff at Shady and GoatBeard's new spot. My mammoth and Trex last week and got a Black on black saber that ended up 104 after the tame. Also Agdog got like a 90+ Scorpion at the same spot too.

Someone needs to fess up to the loss of Airmail! I went to a lot of trouble to get him back the other night!

Maybe he was traumatized from the escapades with me.

Where are you playing Redbeard? I don't think that's TCOV - unless the tribe you thieved was the Texags tribe. Maybe I've missed it, but I haven't seen evidence that anyone else has that kind of resources.

You should come join us on TCOV's Playground!

Edit: As far as being safe from retribution - if you are in a PVP server, then I think only big explosions can harm stone or metal structures ...but if someone has that much metal and cement, then they probably have the ability to make C4 and grenades.

If your foundation is weaker than the structure, then someone may target your foundation (or they may blow it up on purpose. If the foundation goes, then the walls will go too.

If you are in a PVE server, then lock your stuff up and they can't do much to your structures. There are some ways they could grief you, but they shouldn't be able to break in.

I haven't seen anyone on TCOV's playground other than the Texags tribe. I've seen some talking in chat, but haven't run into anyone yet. However, our main base is far from any spawn points, so that may be why.

Before we moved, I saw quite a few people on the Alien PVP server. There was a decent base near the middle of the map with some guys I chatted with one night, and I spoke to what sounded like a young girl that was riding a t-rex one night. I was lost at the time, and I was going in circles. When I ran into her a second time she chased me on her t-rex until I got away. I was on a raptor, but ran out of stamina and it was a close thing. I dodged her for a while by running back and forth between her t-rex's legs.Later that same night, I ran into two guys riding sabertooths who said they were hunting for her.

PVP definitely adds an interesting dynamic. I wouldn't want to be on a public PVP server - too much of a risk of professional griefers and Chinese clans that try to dominate the world and kill everything.

As it's a persistent world, no doors on forts are probably a quick structure someone threw up one night to log off. Kind of like the first home anyone builds in minecraft. Although, if it is a well-developed fort, it may be accessible from the air only.

Yes, in PVP servers people could definitely try to break in to rob you when you are logged off. There are technology in the later tiers like auto firing turrets you can use to try to defend yourself, but someone with the right resources and determination could get past anything. On a PVE server, I think people can still take resources off your body or out of your bins if you don't lock them up. Your biggest threat there is dinosaurs - they can also attack players or even structures while you are offline.

I imagine they'll probably suspect the tribe with the metal base and metal fence that went up overnight.

I'm not on TCOV. May consider coming over.
As far as the foundation, it is covered completely by the second set of walls i put at the base. The only way someone could target it is of they get through those first. Building the 12 walls around the foundation was waaaaaay cheaper than building the 9 foundation pieces. Or am I wrong and this wont be effective?

It's a PVP server...and as bad ass as their base was I assume they have access to high power weapons. Just wasn't sure how easily those would take out metal walls. As far as whether they will find us I feel like we are pretty remote compared to most of the bases that are on the water. We are way off in the middle of the woods.

I found what appeared to be a FOB on the corner of a beach near some rocks in the water that looked to have some resources around it. I was up in the cliff overlooking it. Then I found a small hut on top but was killed by a couple raptors before I could inspect.
Was this anyone's base here on texags?

Unless I'm reading this wrong, it almost looks like a mistake - they are going back to the old training speeds with the next update.

Given the speed at which these guys push updates, they're entitled to a mulligan once in a while.

Wow. So a rather than add something to make it faster, they add an item that is much harder to get and it is only as good as the old raw prime.

Goodbye taming carnivores for a while.

I enjoyed the first developer reply, " Hey we fixed it already!" Except the fix was increasing the effectiveness to something still lower than before.

So, prime meat is going back to the old levels, and kibbles are useless?
quote:
Current Version: v186.0
* Missed This: Raw Prime Meat is now 1/3rd as fast as it was previously to tame (it's equivalent to Raw Meat) -- but same Affinity. Kibble is 1/2 as fast as Raw Prime Meat was previously to tame. We will be adjusting these back to more-or-less their previous speeds in our next major Update.

Nope 186.1 notes:
quote:
* Rebalanced some taming speeds: Raw Prime Meat is 70% as fast as it was originally, and appropriate Kibble is now as fast as Raw Prime Meat originally was. (non-Prime meats are the same speed as originally, as is the non-nutritious Cooked Prime Meat)

Kibble is the new raw prime, raw prime is worse.

At least Kibble can be used on herbivores, but it looks like an awful grind. If this guy is right, here are favorites and some recipes further down the page:
quote:

1. Carno's favorite food is Anklyo kibble
2.T-rexes favorite food is Pulmadmdsam(The ing scoprion) kibble
3.Spino's favorite food is Argentavis kibble
4.Raptor's favorite food is Parasaur kibble
5.Sabertooth's favorite food is bronto kibble.
6.Anklyo's favorite food is Dilo kibble
7.Trike's favorite food is carno kibble
8.Stego's favorite food is Sarco kibble
9.Pterradon's favorite food is Titanboa kibble
10.Sarco's favorite food is Trike kibble
11.Cardonemy's(turtle) favorite food is Pterradon kibble
12.Megalodon's favorite food is Spino Kibble.
13.Mammoth's favorite food is Raptor Kibble
14.Argentavis's favorite food is Stego kibble

Dino's without a favorite kibble: Parasaur, Bronto, Pulmanoscorpius

quote:
kibble (Rex Egg)= 1 Rex egg + 1 longgrass + 1 Prime meat jerky
kibble (Bronto Egg) = 1 bronto Egg + 1 Rockarrot + 1 cooked meat jerky
kibble (Parasuar Egg) = 1 Parasuar Egg + 1 Longgrass + 1 cooked meat jerky
kibble (Raptor Egg) = 1 Raptor Egg + 1 Longgrass + 1 cooked meat jerky
kibble (Trike egg) = 1 Trike egg + 1 Savoroot + 1 cooked meat jerky
Kibble (Dodo Egg) = 1 Dodo Egg + 1 Rockarrot + 1 cooked meat jerky

https://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0/530647080137420279/

This grind does not look to be worth it. It will take longer to grind the recipe than it will to tame using conventional methods.

Looks like they come to there senses.

Upcoming Version: v186.2, ETA: 12:40 pm EST

* Put all meats taming speeds/values exactly where they originally were. Made Kibbles 40% faster for Taming than Raw Meat ever was, and it's got SUPER AFFINITY (if you use the right kind of Kibble for your Dino -- for example Raw Prime Meat may net you a 70% effective tame now, whereas using the right Kibble can get you close to 100%!). May continue to buff Kibble, but let's take it one step at a time with seeing how useful it is now
