Several thoughts on this:

First off I hate the post and think it created an unwanted distraction politically. That said:

  • Most of these kids are 2nd Gen and their parents came here on visa. Some are not but most are citizens. These are overwhelmingly extremely bright kids.
  • I do not like how they are a solid block with no integration. If they had white and other kids mixed in this wouldn't be noticed and it is noteworthy that many Asian kids don't mix. My neighbor for instance outright told me her daughter wouldn't go to A&M because there aren't enough Asians. Lack of integration is a very real problem and there seems to be little expectation for the people who aren't integrating to change.
  • Cheating is very real among Asian kids in competitive HS's both overtly and more covertly. My son was a Top 5% kid at a top HS and he knew multiple groups of Asian kids that shared test answers and homework and he had to compete against them. Very hard to prove because the kids were smart in how they did it but it frustrated my son to feel like he was often competing against a hive mind.
  • Some of these kids are fantastic. Some of my son's best friends are Asian and have been wonderful. Some absolutely are not though and they have a very different idea of "high trust" society and generosity. Many of my neighbors I have done many favors for but it's never returned.
  • The Top 10/5% rules are what has caused this. It hurts bright kids at quality suburban HS's the most where it is insanely competitive to be in those ranges. Thus you have large numbers of kids that could be successful at A&M/Texas that have to go Blinn Team or System/CAP and it creates resentment. The issue though isn't the Asian kids getting those slots, it's generally other minorities from poor performing HS's that also are the most likely to fail out. It makes the merit argument very confusing, especially to people who aren't from Texas and don't understand it. Thus X is filled with ignorance.
  • Anyone that praises diversity or criticizes anything about white kids or males getting preference on anything or cheering minorities or females being successful is a hypocrite if they are going after French. Either race and sex matters or it doesn't.

He's already won the primary. He's in a down-ballot race where most people where most people will just automatically select (R). They will think Railroad Commissioner, oversees the railroads. How big a deal can it be, right? Please don't correct me on that.

He was probably asking himself "How can I secure swing voters, the squishy Concerned Moderates who voted for Cornyn?". So he puts out that Tweet, ensuring that those swing voters who had never heard of him surely know who he is now.

He outkicked the coverage by thinking the white supremacy constituency is larger than it actually is.

Well, they had to wait to see how Cornyn reacted to gauge their own. Once Cornyn came out against French, they were free not to be offended by his Tweet. Even Gov. Abbott had to double-down by condemning it yet still tying it to H-1Bs

Bo French's post was stupid.

I deal with quite a few international students coming to tu (volunteer for a church service org) and encourage every one of them to at least attend one sip game - and an Aggie game if they want to see a real college atmosphere.

This is how I was at my first Aggie game 30 years ago. Proud of it, and these kiddos should be too.

If you are going to whine about foreigners whine about the ones that weren't at the football game. Those are the ones far less likely to assimilate. Not these folks

It's a fair question however in-artfully asked as to why the student body of a large public university does not generally look like the state's population, which is largely white, hispanic, and black.

According to the Google, Indians make up about 1.8% or the student body, which is about as many as there are in the entire state of Texas.

Now, I can see how one picture that focused tightly on a few dozen of students out of 100,000 (number that fits in the stadium) may seem like "OMG, LOOK, THEY'VE TAKEN OVER!!!" to people who hold, views and opinions about Indians already, but if anyone is being honest, even if every Indian who attends tu was at that game, they'd still be less than 2% of everyone there.

Again, less than 2% of the entire stadium.

I am a Republican, and I agree that Bo French's post was stupid because it's making Republicans look bad. That could turn off some independents in tight Texas statewide elections. I am glad the Trump administration is cracking down on H-1B visas, student visas, and mass immigration, but the complaints about foreigners should be directed at those who refuse to assimilate, not a selective picture of UT students among 100,000 other fans.

Consequently, liberal reddit users have more ammunition against conservatives, including the CFB subreddit.

That's the problem I see with it. Texas (the university) is down to about 30% white now which is wild. They no longer represent the state of Texas.

It's a California school in a California town in the state of Texas.

So you want the standards to be changed to be more inclusive of whites? That's too funny

Anyone who watched the game had no shortage of white students to look at. You can see them in this very picture yourself if you look beyond the random group of Indians celebrating together (a few of them actually look Hispanic, but to good ol' boys brown is brown I suppose.)

It's very amusing to me that you just can't bring yourself to opine on the quality of the change.

I get it, it happened.

I'll tell you clearly - Texas going from ~80% non-hispanic white to <40% in the last 50 years is a bad thing. It should not have happened. It is detrimental to our institutions and our culture. Continuing down this path will make an already bad situation worse.

Now you go. The white population collapse in our state. Good? Bad? Irrelvant?

The demographics changes happened, man. The US looks very different today than it did 50 years ago and will look very different in 50 years than it does today. All these folks are Americans, regardless of what they look like or who their ancestors are. Division based on arbitrary factors such as skin color and not merit will only weaken us as a whole.

If they were albino we wouldn't want them either. Skin color is such a weak argument. Skin color is only an easy heuristic for your region of origin.

As was pointed out, these folks are American, born and raised in the US. In many cases, their parents too were born in the US. Can you explain why you don't them then if it isn't skin color? And while you are at it, show how it isn't as arbitrary as skin color.

Yeah I don't see a problem there. As you say they seem to be Americans themselves and not F1-visa students consider they look like undergrads. There may be a few foreigners in there but not many.

French's post was dumb and does look racist. Cornyn's was the opposite but he was also dumb to wade into this kryptonite issue without knowing the facts.

That said, the problem does exist of foreigners invading Texas. But this issue does not demonstrate the problem.

I know many of my foreigr A&M classmates (all skin colors) who cheer for A&M, follow Aggie Football (however stressful it can be) and continue to display A&M stickers on their cars and wear A&M gear decades after graduating.

Not sure why the idea of questioning why an extension of the state government must cater to groups other than, say, the actual native born Hispanic, white, and black people whose families have actually been Texans for generations is that controversial.

The dramatic demographic change in Texas and the United States is not primarily a result of declining white birthrates. It's a result of mass migration from the third world that has only been targeted towards majority white nations. Acting like it's just some natural process that just randomly happened is laughable.

If your local stores and restaurants haven't shifted to cater to a majority immigrant population; if people on your street still put out American flags and celebrate Christmas; if you've never stood in frustration and anger in a long line at the pharmacy listening to the Indian customer arguing with the Chinese pharmacist, both speaking broken English; if seeing a white kid out in public doesn't make you do a double-take ...
